I love the Woodlands.....It is so pretty once you get there and follow the lane in.
I was at first surprised it was close to the road.......but in a minute I realized it meanders right into the wooded area. That outside bar and waterfalls....gorgeous. Maybe even beautiful in the SNOW.
Red Roofs......Well, when I first used them because of my former two dogs, now one......
I was a bit leery. I found them to be always clean, not smelling of dogs, (hate that).....comfortable beds. Nice quiet walls..... Gosh, I stayed at a Days Inn and the walls were so thin, I could hear the maids talking outside.......I cold hear the wind, FEEL the wind. I stayed at a Holiday in in NH that had water beading down the walls........and those water bugs racing around. One in our BED. So much for the grand Holiday Inn. We changed rooms three times........then..........Ya' think I could sleep!
Anyway, yes........Red Roof has been very nice. So pet friendly.......and I've had no problem at all there.
We too hope to stay at one on our way down to Myrtle. Usually we are like 2 or 3 hours away from Myrtle when we give up...........LoL.
Oh funny, now we know Enyas hang out in her neck of the woods.......Its a fun place. A wonderful place for a wedding also.

It's funny, when we were at my Cuz's house we were talking about where we were staying & it turns out her b/f used to hang out at The Woodlands years ago!! We knew he was from Pa, but turns out he lived in Wilkes-Barre area & had restaurants up there!!

Now he wants to stowaway in the back of our car!!

I went to Walmart at 7 this morning to beat the crowds...there's hardly ANY Winter clothes down here!! Everything's shorts & short-sleeve!! I did find 2 long-sleeve thermal shirts though, so now I'm set for your weather up there!!

I haven't eaten meat in 35 years, but I did find a vegetarian kielbasa that tastes (as much as I remember) like the real thing...

Does that count??

That outdoor bar by the waterfall is beautiful...I'm sure it's closed for the season now, but I love hanging out there in the summer and looking at all the ducks in the water below . To be honest, I'm not too fond of the crowd there, especially in Evolution upstairs, so I stick with the downstairs bar and even then, it gets really too crowded a lot of the time. Lately, I've been enjoying some of the smaller bars, like Nightcaps in Edwardsville....The one thing I do like about the Woodlands now though is there's no smoking in there any more because of the ban, which makes me a happy camper

George, It sounds as if you have a wonderful trip planned, and with all the friends you are visiting you won't feel the cold with all the warmth and hugs.

I'll hop on the welcome wagon with all the others. If you and Bill find yourselves in any sort of need, be sure to let us know. Will you be able to post on here? If you need phone #s, mine is available.

Enjoy and safe travels!!

Were you at Nightcaps when M-80 was performing a few Fridays ago?

JG, sounds like a great trip. You should check out the Vegan place downtown. Scranton's certainly not crime-free, but for someone who lived in NYC a few decades ago, the idea of it being particularly dangerous will be laughable to you.

I also think you should try some pizza in Old Forge while you're up here, as it's one of the true local specialties, though not everyone loves it. You could go to somewhere that serves a full menu of Italian food like Anthony's or Amadeo's and try the pizza as an appetizer.
