I was quite interested to read this evening about the sale of 75% of the largely-vacant former "Northampton & Main" mixed-use project (adjacent to Cinema 14) in Wilkes-Barre to Carlsberg Management of Los Angeles. 21 high-end lofts will be developed and sold in the $125,000-$275,000 range, and Carlsberg is set to announce the first tenant that is already lined up for the project. He wouldn't disclose a name but did divulge that it "deals with coffee, cookies, and ice cream." Coming from a college student who has LONG pleaded for an ice cream parlor to come downtown, I'm most certainly going to be a happy camper (too bad I'm graduating!) LOL! Mr. Carlsberg says he is negotiating with a group for the vacant two-story space at the corner of East Northampton and South Washington Streets, hinting at an "Irish pub and restaurant" (Kildare's? Molly Brannigan's?)

I'm excited to hear all of this good news continuing for Downtown Wilkes-Barre. A few new night clubs are on the way as well (stay tuned!)

More revitalization for Wilkes-Barre.....a tax-free KOZ employing people scooping ice cream for minimum wage. Maybe they can round up some of the low-lifes that hang around Public Square and give them a job already!
