Your favorite seasonal Holiday Food purchases in the Scranton area....
OK...please tell us what your favorites are?
A Church with a home-made cookie sale?
A church or special store or bakery that makes great nut rolls and poppy seed rolls?
Any good seasonal desserts that you like to purchase just for the holidays?
How about some Polish foods that are made by certain places just for the holidays?
My mother used to buy ravioli from a place in West Pittston, on eighth street I think, called Antoinette's. She is an italian woman who makes her own ravioli from scratch and they are delicious. My mom has a gluten allergy, diagnosed a few years ago, so we don't do that one any more, but I highly recommend the ravioli!
We like homemade sugar cookies to cut out and sprinkle......they have a sour cream in them...good.
Hubby is always looking for the "driest" fudge....not smooth, not moist.......dry and crumbly.
It seems at Christmas we all like Chicken Franchaise from MIKES........but, now Mikes has burned down. So I think we have our families Mike.....who will be the chef for the dinner of Christmas Day.
One family member makes peanut brittle. It looks real nice.....But, I usually pass it up....

LOVE Chicken Francaise!!!
I do make those tri-color Italian cookies...lots of work, but so worth it and they are soooo pretty!
I'm definitely looking for something to BUY...not make this year. Just might have to find those raviolis!!! my Dad had a great family ravioi sauce recipe and we usually have them Christmas Eve...
Cool music video... Love the song as much as the food.
I did a search of the Scranton area, & for a largely Polish-populated place, there's no Polish delis!! I called Novack's for you & they don't have kishka. There was a Polish Deli that began with a "J" (which I couldn't pronounce) & they're outta business.
BUT, I found out that Wegman's has kishkas under the name "Mealmart Fresh Kishka" (don't know how "Polish" they are...) in their deli department, so give 'em a call & hopefully you'll have a Merry Christmas!!!

Thanks George, for calling around for me.. That was very nice of you.
But on a sad note kishka, only come's out once a year. Right around 'Fall' the few places I used to get it. Didnt have any this year. I'm not sure as to way no one was making any. But such is life. I usely buy like 10 to 15 rings of it when it is out. Perhaps next year.
But I will look into Wegman's, infact Im going to call them right now. I'll let ya know how I made out.
Thanks again,
John
