Say it ain't so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am devastated

Anyway, I'm getting ready for my yearly migrant-labor trek to the frigid NEPA from balmy (it's 58 today - to high 60s over weekend) NC. So I thought I'd chime in.

PRO: I like food, pizza, listening to y'all talk, sidewalks, and the really gawdy Christmas decorations - the "tasteful" single candles in the windows just don't do it - and Gertrude Hawks candy!

CON: Y'all can be so crabby (I figure it is because it's cold) and in a hurry.
I have never had to talk to so many mean and nasty people when taking an order than I have when I come up here to work in my brother's shop. Honestly, it takes everything in me to keep the smile plastered on my face when talking to some of these people. Poor planning on your part is not my fault......

Weluvpa - "... was born yards from the ocean on island out of this area" - why would you leave that - it must have been gorgeous!!!

Oh gosh, I hate gawdy Christmas decorations.........I really do. But, a tasteful single candle in a window is cute, but gets a bit boring.........LOL Not that I don't mind seeing them as I drive by.
My kids always told me I couldn't leave them on.........fire hazzard they would tell me....Whaaaaaaa...
They were constantly unplugging them, then I had to put them all back on.

Some homes are overdone..........outta control........But, its Christmas....so whatever it takes to have fun.
I go a little overboard on the scene Village.........Ah........Reason is it makes the little fellows happy.
They touch things, move the sleds around, send the polor bears on a sleigh ride........Their eyes light up.
Anyhow........anyone with Christmas pictures we have a thread now. I don't want to hijack the Scranton #!# thread.
PS the GHawks is over rated.......I just don't like it at all.

over-priced, definitely, but worth it when the only "fix" is at Christmas.

mm_mary retail can be a challenge up around these parts, especially big-box retail where everyone wants "quick, cheap, and easy." The era of talking to Jimmy at the corner drug store is dead in NEPA---now we're all in a rush-rush to do everything. I used to hate going to church knowing that as soon as the pastor said his last prayer everyone would immediately BOLT for the door! What's even worse is when you close at 9 PM, have people show up at 9:25 PM, and then ARGUE with you when you tell them they can't come into the store. We're open from 6 AM-9 PM. If you can't adjust your busy little schedules around that, then that's NOT our problem! I actually had one of Edwardsville's finest threaten me a week or so ago saying he'd be back the next day when I was working. He's lucky he never showed because the cops would have been called.

No need to get snippy. I was poking innocent fun, not "yelling" at her about it! LOL! I just happen to think Gertrude Hawk's Chocolates (while indeed very over priced) are also quite delicious. I sat down and ate half a box of smidgens in one sitting before (and didn't gain an ounce!)

Dunmore Candy Kitchen on Drinker St. is much better than GH ... just thought you might like to give something else a try and to know that GH is not the only quality candy maker in the area.
