Default What gear do we take the nepa pics with?

I got quite a few e-mails asking what we use to get such pictures as the ones you see posted here:

the answere is its really irrelevent what camera you use. any camera capable of taking good quality pictures is enough. we recently got a 30 year old nikon fe 35mm camera which shoots as good or even better under good lighting as any of our big buck digitals....

its all about good technique, being creative and avoiding just taking a snapshot, good lighting and use a tripod where you can

as far as what we use:

i use a nikon d300 with nikon 17-55mm lens (street price about 2700)

marilyn uses a nikon d80 with nikon 18-200mm lens (street price about 1400.00) now replaced with the d90 (street price with lens about 1700.00)

both cameras under 95% of lighting conditions take indistinguishable pictures. even we cant tell who took what usually. although i tend to use a stronger color profile

the difference between the 2 is the d300 can shoot handheld in dimmer light, on a tripod though indistinguishable

lens we use besides the above are

the nikon 70-300mmvr telephoto

tamron 90mm macro lens for bugs and flowers

sigma 10-20mm superwide angle

nikon 50mm f1.8 and very soon for xmas the nikon 50mm 1.4 which is for low light indoor shooting where we have to handhold and no flash shooting is allowed....

for someone starting out on a budget i reccomend the nikon d40x or d60x

and the camera is 30 years old.... its amazing that a 30 year old 35mm camera is still worth 1/2 of what it sold for.... i sold my nikon d80 when i got the d300 and it was worth 1/2 of what i paid for it 1-1/2 years later.

can you imagine what a 5 year old digital would be worth? probley nothing

You trully have a talent Matt! You 'SEE' things....my hsuband still uses his 30 yr old camera that I bought him when we started dating...he was 21 and I was 19!! I laugh...the ladies I worked with tried so hard to talk me out of buying that expensive camera for a guy I just met! If they only knew how many wonderful moments in our lives it has captured.
Matt was also nice enough to recommend the web-site Adorma for reprints. They cetainly appear to be a notch above the rest, and I have ordered my reprint of Matts picture from this web-site in a metallic finish..I can't wait to get it!! My Christmas present to myself! They have odd sizes so I'm getting a 10 x 20 whcih I will have matted and then put into a larger frame for over the fireplace.
