Very true. When we moved into our subdivision just outside of Dupont in 1996 only ONE neighbor came over to extend her hand in friendship to us and welcome us to the neighborhood, and she herself was a recent transplant from Los Angeles. Eventually we "got to know" everyone else, but I still notice many neighbors won't even extol the effort to return the wave I give them while driving by. I miss Inkerman, my old neighborhood, where there truly was a sense of community. This is why I'm never raising my own children in the suburbs, where people will only generally befriend you enough to get invited into your home so that they can "compare" your stuff to theirs to see who's making more money! Most people in Greater Pittston DO keep to themselves. I've become more insular myself over the past few years, but that's due largely to my hectic schedule that has me in either Scranton or Wilkes-Barre more so than here in Pittston. Nobody seems to have time for anybody.

To be honest,Pittston was another one of my early somewhat negative experiences in PA...
Back in 1993 I landed a job on 315 and ended up getting a place on Elizabeth St,a couple blocks off of Main(around the corner from St. Rocco's church, that still there?)
Anyway the realtor I went through(Sebico in Yatesville)were nice enough and even was renting to a guy I worked with.
It was actually a double house I was renting and the nice neighbors I had of course ended up moving away b/c they just had a baby. So then some big family ended up cramming themselves in next door and there was always noise. Turns out they had some hooligan kids(which seemed to be a constant thread in my days in PA).
After awhile of living there,I noticed the neighbors would look at me funny(much like the other places in PA I lived). This time I think it was because I wasn't married and didn't own brat kids, that's why they looked at me like I was Jeffrey Dahmer or something. I also started to notice that the kids seemed to run the town(again the same thread),they'd run roughshod all over vandalizing things and of course the drunken parents didn't care so it was up to the 'village' to raise the kids. Well apparently they didn't like that and I was figuratively run out of town by torchwielding townspeople.
Aside from the streetsigns being made of cardboard and half of the other ones missing, implying that if you weren't born there you didn't belong there,it wasn't as bad as some other places in PA I've been...but close

West Pittston is nice. Especially the mansions along the river. Pittston is another story....always reminded me of Luzerne County's version of Carbondale. Although the last few times I drove through downtown Pittston, it seemed to be getting better...seemed to be some new businesses opening up.

Because you know the area so well.....
I'll defer to your expertise on NE PA....
Why not go back to NJ if you're so miserable here?
