Actually in NJ I would have to shovel a spot up above our home area. They did not plow our road at the time until days after a storm. Hubby had to get back and forth to work, and he worked late with the phone company. So I'd go up the street. Shovel like mad.....plows would stroll by.....( hummmmm)...
So I'd make a spot, and come home frozen and stiff. Was I happy when hubby showed up with someone now sitting in the shoveled location?.......YIKES........Because now what was he to do, and he wasn't allowed to shovel. So, yep.........I had to make a sign, not a large sign.....but one to put in the ground. It did say it was for my hubby and bla, bla, bla..........But, gosh........There was no way I could shovel that whole street. Very hard shoveling the plow berms. At 10PM when he came home, he needed to pull in there.........so yes.........I made a sign ( quite funny to think about now...)

During the Valentines Day storm last year, my girlfriend who lives in West Side has major problems as the city hadn't plowed her street for quite some time after the storm. I actually rented a plow and knocked on everyone's door asking if they'd like me to plow spots for them or their driveway. It actually was a pretty festive day and everyone worked together. But of course there was one guy who told me he wasn't interested and then of course as soon as a spot was cleaned across from his house, he promptly parked there. This made absolutely no sense to me. And it being a long, cold day, tempers flared and late that night somebody used a 5lb sledge hammer and destroyed his windshield. I believe there were several fistfights reported last year. Thankfully I have a garage, as we have alternate parking in my town and that makes it even a little bit harder. So far so good this year though. Thankfully.
