Merry Christmas from Sheena12 to All!!!
We sincerely hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are enjoying the Holiday season!!!
We are not moving to the suburbs or outlying areas of Scranton or Wilkes-Barre. Most of you live on the outskirts of these cities.
Yes these are cities to us. We live in Eastern Long Island. We have wetlands and woods, but no sidewalks or subways.
New York City is a great place, but I wouldn't want to live there, even though I did live there for several years many years ago.
Not all of New York City is open-minded and tolerant! Openly gay couples will be accepted in the West Village, the East Village, SOHO, NOHO, and perhaps the upper West Side. The rest of NYC is a mixed bag. If you are different in any way some people will not snicker in your face. They will do that after you pass them on the street. Not all, but about 1/3.
Some of the outer boroughs are open and accepting. Most are not!!!
DO NOT go to Howard Beach or Bensonhurst, you WILL NOT be welcome.
No one here thinks in terms of "Panaceas or Utopias" or what was that comment-- a "liberal Nirvana". Yeah sure!!!
We are very honest in that we are leaving Long Island because we can not afford it. We are sick of being house and tax poor. Long Island is beautiful
and it's "our home". ie: we have friends here, we grew up here, but it's become a place for the very rich or very poor.
What do we expect of NEPA. A friendly and welcoming people. Most people we have met in person have been wonderful. A friendly and diverse area-- not all doctors or local dockworkers, but perhaps a bit of each. A place where we can get the house of our dreams and not pay through the nose. Be able to travel, decorate our home, adopt more children and contribute to charities. A walkable and upcoming small city.
So, that's all folks!!!
P.S. I am finished with the uniform thread!!!

If you are considering the outlying areas of scranton check out clarks summit... a very safe affordable area...mix of rural and city...I am also from
New York...and have been here 2+ years..very happy with the area and the people...feel free to ask more specific questions about the area...

I DO NOT live on the outskirts of a city....I live in Scranton and I'm a neighborhood leader in the city as well.....Scranton is nowhere near any city that I have lived in around the world and this country...I have a hard time calling it a city and or an urban environment.....The only thing urban is the clothes that the kids where in the downtown at the mall......
I wish you all the best and hope that you find what you are looking
although I think your reaching abit...There are no subways here either...
Merry xmas and good luck......

I live in the CITY of Scranton...compared to the Island it is a city...the tallest building in my former neck of the woods was the Vet memorial at Bald Hill. Most of Scranton is very hilly and not "walkable", unless of course your a hiker and than no problem.
Sheena, I am confused...have you been to Scranton? Most of the homes are on very very small lots. I mean 50x65 type lots.
