Help
I am in need of help about jury duty. About 7 yrs ago i had gone to the courthouse in scranton and went through the jury selection. i wanted to be on the jury so i didn't write i was an uncontroled diabetic. i had then came out of the room and stopped a man (if thats what you want to call him) and asked him if i needed to use the restroom wuld i beable to? and that i needed to eat at a certain time would i beable to? he said that there where certain times for that. i then explained that i was a diabetic and oh my goish you would have thought i was hitler. this man went up one side of me and down the other because i didn't write that i was a diabetic on the summons i got. well now i have received another. i wrote this time that i was an uncontroled diabetic and they sent a letter stating that my excuse doesn't excuse me from jury duty. please help i don't want to go through being attack like that again

Seems to me that she wants to serve if her condition can be accomodated, and the first two responses are suggestions how to "get out of it". If responsible people don't serve on juries, who does that leave?

I think that under the American's with Disabilities Act that they will have to make a reasonable accomodation in order for you to be able to serve ... and if that means allowing you to have a snack and be able to have bathroom breaks ... then that is what they will have to do for you if you want to serve and they choose you. You wrote on your summons that you have this condition and they have let you know that this is not an excuse not to serve ... so then they will have to accomodate you.

In 7 years a lot has changed. I highly doubt that anyone will berate you like that person did. You will have to go but when they question you, make sure they know about your uncontrolled diabetes - they will probably excuse you due to the fact that they wont want to take the chance of interruptions. It's been hard of late to get jurors so no one is excused until you actually get there. Also, get a note from your doctor!

i do have the pump and its not right yet i have no signs when my sugar drops and i would have to be testing every 5 min. because i can go to 500 without eatting and drop to 30 in that 5 min. without taking any insulin. the only way i am stopping it now is to keep sugars high and pee often my endo is trying to get me that new pump that has the monitor that goes in you.

If you have to go to the bathroom all the time I don't see how they could have you sit on the jury - you have to be there to hear the testimony. How often do you need a bathroom break? Perhaps you can talk to your doctor about it?

thank you everyone for your sugestions when i go to the jury seletion i will make sure they know all and before that i will talk to the Dr. I guess I am a little wierd but I realy would like to see what it's like being on a jury but I don't want people yelling at me that I did the wrong thing again by not telling them of my situation I guess thats my biggest fear. Thanks again
