Angry Avoca Cash Deposits via ATM!

I was just writing to inform everyone that you should never Deposit cash through a PNC bank Atm while the branch is closed! First off someone had sticky fingers as my cash deposit turned up $20.00 short the next day. I had to start a dispute with the corporate office via the phone and was not happy about their service. My account was frozen over the weekend due to there mistake and I was not able to get my medications. After going into the Avoca branch today and calmly talking with managment they informed me that they would look into it and call me in a day or so. All the while my account is still frozen. Around 2:00PM. I got a call from the branch manager and she apologized and corrected the mistake admitting it was their fault! It apparantley was not of any concern to anyone at the corperate level at PNC Bank as I argued politely with 3 different staff members and got the worst customer service I had ever got in my life. I have 16 years of customer service under my belt and I will tell you that the people I dealt with where Rude and Obnoxious! I am removing all funds after my mid month pay and telling everyone I know not to never deposit CASH into an ATM In Avoca PA. It appears that someone there has sticky fingers and I am extremely upset about the Service at PNC! We should be able to charge them a FEE for there mistakes! They do it to all of us!

Sorry to hear of your bad experience with PNC. I would never deposit cash into an ATM period, even at the most trusted bank. I'm not handing cash over to anyone unless it goes directly from my hands into theirs (a human's) and I supervise the transaction personally. As for your customer service experience, I've never dealt with that particular branch, but I do work with the PNC in the Dallas branch, and they're always very accommodating. Dealing with ANYWHERE on a corporate level is always usually a headache.

I have used PNC for 25 Years. In NJ and in PA.......not the Avoca branch though.
They have been great. One time there was a big mistake that was 100 short to my daughter. It was found by the next day as the tellers mistake. That very same teller gave me 100 to much not soon after that. I had them deduct from the amount from my acct. I think she wasn't at that job too much longer......

I have 20 years of banking experience and I can assure anyone that your cash depsoits at an ATM are completley safe. All deposits are opened by 2 employees, and everything is logged, any corrections that need to be made require a bit of paperwork. If you don't trust the ATM machine for cash deposits, you might as well not trust the tellers either. They have access to your Social Security numbers, all your loans, all you bank account numbers...hey...they could even order checks with your name on it and your account number.
Sometimes you just have to trust people and not treat them like thieves.
To accuse people of stealing or having sticky fingers right off the bat...well...it's no wonder why Customer service relations were poor. I'd have a hard time being nice if I had a job where I was responsilbe for hundreds of thousands of dollars and someone was accusing me of stealing a big $20.00.

I did not start off by saying they stole anything. It is not the $20.00 it is the principle of the matter! They admitted to their mistake as my account was frozen for a weekend. It is just the point that if "I " make a Banking mistake I am charged $31.00 and there isn't any disputing that. How would the PNC Tellers like it if I froze their funds for a work weekend? I think I should be allowed as a customer to charge them a fee for my inconvenience! Lets face it, people use their debit cards for everything now and imagine not having access to your own money due to a bank mistake. Yeah people make mistakes but I am held accountable for mine, why not hold Corperations and Financial Institutions for theirs!

Was your account frozen or were the fund you deposited just not available?? There is a difference. Do you realize how many people make a deposit at the ATM for more than they are depositing so that they can withdraw on their debit card against funds they really don't have?

Absoulutely and I am no thief! I would never do such a dishonest thing! The Bank acknowlegded their mistake and acted like jerks anyway! It is not about the $20.00 but the attitudes and dishonesty of some bank Tellers. In explanation the branch manager apologized and stated that they made a counting error. According to you I would think 2 adults counting an envelope should be able to add things up! Besided that there is also a woman in there who has an attitude with me every time I go in for anyhting! Out of respect for the elderly I am corgile and do not put her in her place! I think next time I will verbaly let her have it especially after all of this! PS. Do you work in Avoca?

Hi, sorry to hear about your experience. I have never dealt with PNC, but I had worked for a large bank for over 12 yrs, and see deposit errors often.
Keep in mind the tellers at PNC may not be the ones emptying the ATM. Many larger banks use armored services (like Brinks, etc) to pick up deposits at ATM's then they are delivered to a processing center for counting and routing to correct accts. So if there were sticky fingers at hand, it may not have been the folks at the bank. Unfortunately mistakes happen, and I am glad that the manager finally corrected it. But you shouldn't have had to deal with the manager...too bad the associates at the bank didn't do their job. In all honesty to a bank $20.00 usually isn't even worth researching, many automatically credit if an error is detected, going on the customers word. I bet the manager was not too happy that the staff there couldn't handle this.

You may want to check out another bank, there are many good ones in the area.

On the side- I belong to a credit union (ironic I know) and they have no local offices...so I have been depositing funds (cash and checks) at an ATM for over 15 yrs and haven't had any issues...so don't let one bad experience sour you. But, like others have said, banks usually put a hold on your deposits at an ATM, even cash (b/c they don't know that it is cash yet), so if you need the money to use asap then it is better to hang onto it until you can get to a branch to deposit it.
