Default Get ready, Artic cold on the way!!! A few words of caution.

NOAA is forecasting well below normal lows for the end of the week. Areas across the elevations of the Pocono's will see temps in the -10 range. It will be very, very cold.
Their will also be high winds, this will bring the wind chills down to dangerous.

A few words of caution for the folks not accustomed to these temps... Most of us.

Dress in layers.
Where a hat and gloves.
Cover your face from the wind, Face flesh freezes fastest.
Spend little time out doors if it is possible, stay indoors.

Your furnace may not keep up, If you find it running and running, give it a break. Lower the thermostat a bit.
Open the cabinets under the sinks to give them some more warmth.
Don't use space heaters for central heating, they can take the chill off a room but can't heat it or the house.

Start your car and allow it to warm before leaving.
Be sure to clean your windshield of ice or snow before leaving, it will refreeze in this kinda weather.
Top your tank and keep it full.

Good luck out there.

Anyone else have tips?

Oh also keep your wipers off the windscreen when parked. I saw this so many times last weekend and actually did it myself ; it worked.

The keeping wipers off the windshield I never understood. I don't understand what keeping them off helps in any way. Isn't that the reason we have window defrosters?? I've never had a problem with leaving the wipers down.

And don't forget our four-footed friends as well. Let them out for as long as they need to do their thing, and bring 'em right in!!

I'm sure that there will be some school delays Thursday and Friday too.

Welcome to winter, campers!!!

The defroster on my car doesn't reach where my wipers rest. They are just above the hood at the lowest portion of the window and the defroster blows much higher. Also, if you turn those wipers on while they are still frozen to your windshield you will burn out your wiper motor which can be an expensive fix. Don't laugh...it happens more than you think!!

I say...stay inside...don't go out unless you have to! And don't let your poor kiddies stand outside waiting for the bus for 10 minutes! Park your warmed up car right where the bus stops, and possibly expect bus delays....I work for a school bus company and I'm fully expecting it to be a nightmare of a morning as the diesel fuel just gels up and the buses won't start in this kind of weather. They will be out changing fuel filters all over the place. We do treat the fuel in cold weather, but it just doesn't always work.

Ohhhh, whine and moan........sigh. Yeah. That's me whining and moaning. I'm supposed to be on a commuter flight leaving early Thursday morning from Scranton. This weather report makes me more nervous than usual.

Someone please tell me that I have no reason to be nervous!!

Yes indeed, keep the critters in if they are the type.

If you have a bit of farm stock(I do). Give them extra bedding and extra feed. Make sure they have fresh warm water at least twice a day. Maybe move their feed a bit closer to their bedding.
