I remember my grandfather calling them mangoes (he was born and raised in Italy).
My great grandmother was a farmer in Inkerman, and she won an award at a tomato festival one year many moons ago, for the largest tomato entered in the contest. So an article was written in the paper...not sure which one, it was an article probably from 50's, and it said that she grew mangoes on her farm...now she born and raised in Poland. So maybe an Italian wrote the article, or everyone in our area calls peppers mangoes...b/c I know the actual mango fruit doesn't grow in Inkerman...

My mother always called green peppers mango's ... so it must be a NEPA thing ... if she sent us into the store when we were kids and asked us to get mango's ... we knew to get peppers and not the fruit.
