Clarks Summit and the surrounding area known as "The Abingtons" are one of the most desirable places to live in the metro area. The town proper has a small downtown with some "yuppie" stores (an organic foods market, gift shops, yarn studio, kitchen store, Talbot's, womens' apparel, etc.) It is also home to the Summit Diner (good cheap food) and State Street Grill (great place to take a date in the warmer months with great calamari and sweet potato fries!!!).
It is part of the Abington Heights School District, which usually ranks amongst the better school districts in the area. It comes at a price though, as property taxes are sky-high in the Abingtons. The area is home to mostly a white-collar, upper-middle-class population with a lot of younger families, although a number of empty-nesters have started moving here from NYC/NJ as well. You'd be a quick drive to Dickson City (big-box stores, chain restaurants, mall, etc.) or Scranton (theater, nightlife, fine dining, arts, etc.)
There really isn't much "crime" there to speak of. There ARE a hell of a lot of car accidents though for some odd reason; someone needs to teach the people of The Abingtons how to drive!

LOL! As far as employment is concerned there are a few major employers in the immediate area, including MetLife (financial services), Clarks Summit State Hospital, and Highland Associates (architecture/engineering). There are more options available in Scranton, but with the recession jobs aren't just going to fall into your lap, regardless of your qualifications.
Best of luck! Our moderator, coartist88, lives in Clarks Summit and should be along soon to help. Member sausages lives here as well, and member to570717 is a native of nearby Waverly, I do believe.
