Smile New Lifestyle Center Coming to Downtown Scranton

Today downtown real estate mogul George Semian announced his plans to redevelop the intersection of Mulberry Street & Franklin Avenue, a block that is currently occupied by the former North American Warhorse Building and the former Crystal Club Soda building.

Mr. Semian said "the project will offer upscale commercial and retail space with parking for over 150 cars. The project will encompass a full city block with magnificent changes."

He refused to divulge any further details, but I'll add to this thread as more information becomes available. It seems like Downtown Scranton continues to heat up!

Anything that includes parking is great! I hope things aren't too high priced for my taste. I like not having to go far to do anything.

I'm all for supporting the local economy!

It will be nice to see something welcoming when you get off the Expressway into the city. B/c currently it certainly isn't a very picturesque gateway to downtown scranton. But hey once it's complete, you can't beat a Dunkin' Donuts on one side (my favorite!!) and a lifestyle center on the other....curious to see what will be there. Did he say if it was retail or is it more along the lines of professional offices?

Too bad he wasn't able to keep his office in the Mellon Building & develop the Mifflin ave/ Mulberry St area too...that place has such character (but no parking...I guess that is part of the draw to this new location).

Sounds promising, but just hope it's integrated into the streetscape in a walkable way, and not like a strip-mall plopped down from Mars..

BTW, anyone want to take the pledge with me to never use the PR term "lifestyle center" without quotes?

The project has 150 parking spaces. It's essentially a strip-mall.

It's possible that the parking spaces could be located in the rear.

The parking will be located on the side in the lot on the corner, behind the building is a soda/beverage shipping business I think.

Any guess on who owns the property?
