Out of the woodwork....
All of the Steelers and Eagles fans have come out of the woodwork where I am. This past week, shouting matches were held at work, each side professing to be the "soon-to-be" Super Bowl Champs! I quietly listened and thought about the games coming up, and how Arizona and Baltimore are still in the competition. *Knuckleheads!*
I tuned into some early-morning ESPN and the Swami predicts the SuperBowl will have Philadelphia and Baltimore facing off for the trophy.
Stay tuned...
(apologies for the digression)

Monroe County and we love the METS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone you see here likes the Yankees and the Giants. As you go westward into Lackawanna and Luzerne Counties you see more Philadelphia fans

I's a Phillies and Eagles fan, and even though I'm not as much into hockey and basketball, I'm a Philly fan, so by default I'd root for the Flyers and Sixers.
The sports team followings are strange around here. I'd say the Phillies and Yankees are the two biggest baseball teams, no other teams have much of a following here...there are some Red Sox fans here, but not many Pirates or Mets fans. BUT...the Steelers have a huge following here, I'd say the area is pretty much split evenly for the Eagles and Steelers. There are some Giants fans, and pretty much no Jets fans here.
Hockey? I would think this area pretty much follows the AHL Pens more than anyone, but I'm sure a lot of people became Pittsburgh fans from following players from WB/Scr to the NHL. There are some Flyers fans around here too. Basketball? I wouldn't really know, the NBA doesn't seem that big around here, but my guess is the area pretty much follows the Sixers or Knicks, with some Celtics fans here and there.

Even the Pirates? I mean, I meet a lot of Steelers and Pens fans around here, but I'm not sure if I ever met a Pirates fan in NEPA.

There's a few of us Ranger fans here also. But not as many as Flyers or Penguins fans. The Baby Pens have done a fabulous job of turning people around here into hockey fans over the last 10 years. You're right about basketball. There isn't too much of a following of NBA teams, just a lot of high school and college. And I'd agree about the split of Steelers and Eagles fans. Lots of Yankee and Phillies fans, but I don't understand why I see so many Red Sox fans up here in NEPA? I do wonder why there are no Pirates fans here, when NEPA loves the Steelers and Pens?

I grew up in Luzerne county (moved away in '87), and while I now live near Pittsburgh, I am still a Phillie fan.

Part if that is the bandwagon that started up when they won the World Series in 2004, but also, I have always noticed that there are a lot of old-timers around here who are Sox fans....probably from back in the day when the Scranton Red Sox, a farm team for Boston, played here. I think they left in the 1950's. But then probably some of the people back then became Boston fans, then their kids and grandkids also became Sox fans, and so on...

Monroe county has more Mets fans than Phillies, which is why the cable company carries the Mets channel now and not the Phillies channel

Oh ok, that makes sense. So there are still some remnants from that team alive today in the area.
