How could there possibly be any cons about promoting Scranton as a beacon of higher education? Pittsburgh is in many ways a larger version of Scranton, and thanks to Carnegie Mellon, Duquesne, University of Pittsburgh, Point Park, etc. it, too, is becoming a hotbed for young professionals---it has the second-highest concentration of robotics-related career opportunities in the world (or so I read on their sub-forum), and the city is rebounding very well as of late. Boston comes to mind as well, with Wellesley, Harvard, Boston College, Boston Univeristy, MIT, Northeastern, etc. Scranton, a year from now, will have the University of Scranton, Marywood, Lackawanna, Commonwealth Medical College, and Johnson College within its city limits, along with PSU/Worthington, Baptist Bible, and Keystone nearby.
Scranton is going to get nowhere fast if it clings to its old blue-collar roots at a time when manufacturing is dying a painful death nationwide. The only answer is EDUCATION---something most who approach the podium wouldn't know much about as they habitually slam the U of S.

Well, I'm filling the void with my demographics thread. That thread will become a model for sub-forums everywhere in a few weeks, including anything and everything you could ever wish to know about our three-county area from largest registration of Republicans to highest number of likely lesbian households to violent crime rates.
I think part of this sub-forum's problem is that we've become too busy for our own good. The Administrator is apparently unhappy with his decision to create at least one regional sub-forum, as he is adamantly refusing to create one for South Central PA's eight-county area for that very reason. If it happens to be ours, then I'd recommend a halfway-split of our sub-forum into separate sub-forums---one for the Pocono Mountains and one for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Naw. I think the folks outside of NEPA are sick and tired of hearing about Scranton by now thanks to my prior ranting and raving! LOL!

It seems almost anytime Scranton is mentioned, a political discussion will follow. The two go hand in hand.

I just don't see why you can't hate the mayor/council AND think the city has a bright future!
