Go for a quiet, relaxing stroll along Main Street at 2 AM with a Prada handbag, Rolex, and an iPhone and see if you feel the same way. You'd be perfect bait for a new FOX reality television show. Instead of Dateline's "To Catch a Predator," this could be "To Catch a Drug Addict!"

Half right, half wrong.
"Low income" housing is not the problem. It's the "no work low income" folks living in "low income" housing. If the prerequisite for such housing was a full time job (or two part-time jobs), methinks that would clean up the mess.
And instead of Welfare reform (socialism), let's end socialism right now.
There is no reformation that will transform a predatory system like socialism.
You cannot tax the productive for the benefit of the non-producer and expect civilization to advance.
Just say "NO" to national socialism.

I was born and raised in EDW. and graduated high school there.
I can remember wayyyy back when the mines were still working and the streets would be lined with folks even in the evenings. There were enough miners coming down Woodward hill after their shifts to support over twenty bars in less than a mile.Day or night
they were a tough lot and would not put up with any shenannagins and the cops were even tougher.
The Chiefs nickname was "TOUGHY" and everybody knew it.
The problem is that they all died off and their offspring moved on.
Around the time of the flood in 72 came Fort Appachie and the the Hiltop complex.
What no one has mentioned here is the fact that also came the halfway house /rehab buildings that uesd to be Mothers Place.
Old Man Dukas who owned the Grand Theater which is where the town hall now sits once invisioned tearing down all the buildings on Main Street and widening it to have a road that would go from Larksville all the way thru Kirby Park and over a new bridge to meet Northhmpton Steet in W-B.
They thought he was nuts!..I can still remember the chant "From the Mountain to the Mountain"
I still have an Aunt in EDW.and every time I drive up Main street I shake my head and remember
Old Man Dukas.

So I can't tell you what "parts" of Edwardsville we saw, but what we did see gave me that feeling!!

Sounds like you went down some of the glorious south streets in Kingston... they arent any better then the streets in edwardsville. Take a drive through the edwardsville apartments on a nice summer night. That can be an adventure....

Kingston is mostly pretty nice with a few bad streets. Edwardsville is one continous dump from one side of town to the other. Some shmoe robbed a Bingo Hall of all places (in Edwardsville of course) It was on the eleven o'clock news. "Fork over the money Grandma!!!" BINGO!!! I guess he got frusterated when they didn't call I-7. You can't make this stuff up .

Unfortunately Kingston is slowly starting to resemble edwardsville in certain areas. Ive noticed a huge differance in the neighborhood i grew up in from when i was little until now. It's very unfortunate to see the decline of some neighborhoods. But my hats off to the Kingston Police Dept. on what they're doing to slow it down.

I'd still prefer to be a property owner in Kingston ANYDAY over Edwardsville. Why, may you ask? Image is everything. Resale is much more difficult in a town like Edwardsville as opposed to a community like Kingston due to people's external perceptions (just look at how long it's been taking to sell the very few lots in that newer subdivision in Edwardsville as a prime example).

Good quote! Hats off to Kingston Police. They are a good, very aggressive police dept. trying to combat the crime. They are one of the better police dept's in the region.
