Where was it? I'd probably been in there, but don't remember the names of stores down by Hancock.

There was a liquor store at the corner and a small fur shop just around the corner. Closer to the bank on the corner of Welles (Wells), a men's clothing store and a uniform shop.

Willy's was on Market between Hancock and Welles next to Johnny's Market and across from Greenberg's. Now on the corner of Welles across from the bank was a gas station that was owned by my mom's cousin Joe Koviak. As a kid I would sometimes pump gas there and clean the windshields of cars. I don't think I checked the oil.

Willy and Lil's last name was Saken (spelling?) They were cousins to my family who owned Kaplan's Furniture (across from the United Penn Bank and next to the gas station) Willy and Lil's son Doug died in a small plane crash. He was a pilot and was piloting a small plane and tragically died in a freak crash. He was their only son. They relocated and retired to Florida after the redevelopment in the Heights. They have since passed away.

I was wondering if anyone can remember what streets had neighborhood elementary schools before the consolidation and construction of the big Heights Murray Elementary in approximately 1976-1977. I believe there were at least 3 small neighborhood elementary schools that closed when they opened the new school.

They were on Meade St. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.2345...7i13312!8i6656, Grant St. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.2383...7i13312!8i6656, and Hancock St. https://www.google.com/maps/@41.2383...7i13312!8i6656. The one on Hancock was called Weaver. The other two were named for the street that they were on.

I remember Doug Saken. He and my (much) older brother were friends in high school. He went to the New Jersey shore with us one year.

Oops. This was Weaver https://www.google.com/maps/@41.2396...7i13312!8i6656
