young couple wants to leave the city but the wife needs a close job
My wife and I have officially decided that its time to leave the NYC, and NJ taxes are a joke. I offered to pay the bills and let her be an "AT HOME WIFE" but that was a no go lol . How is the local job market ? I would love for her to have anykind of job even though she will take a paycut, to maintain her independance. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Where exactly are you looking to move to? Northeastern PA? Wilkes-Barre/Scranton area? I grew up in philly and also near Wilkes-Barre and I can say jobs aren't that plentiful here, but then again it depends on what type of job you have. There are lots of factories in this area but sadly some are closing. Mountaintop Industrial Park use to have a large number of factories there but most are closing too. I think the only think left is Quaker Oats, Gatorade, CertainTeed and a few others, but nothing like it use to be. You really have the hit the job market right and you really do need a marketable job.

I live outside of Scranton and I just started working for the Department of Labor and Industry, since the unemployment rate is so high they are hiring like mad. She must take the civil service test, its quite easy. Pay is $14.38 hr. also the State Census is hiring, also a state test. All info is online.
Good Luck !!

Okay not to be the negative one. But finding a job up here is not the easiest. When we moved here from NYC hubby was able to get a transfer, which was good for him but I had to quit my job. I was a buyer for a company that provides goods to all the retirement home and hospitals in the area. Here that job doesn't exsit. I have in three years not been able to find a job. When I was used to traveling at least twice a year for my job. I am now stuck at home. I would make sure her field of work is promising before you make the move.

I personally would not be thinking of moving ANYWHERE if I did not already have a job lined up. During this current economic crisis it is not the best time to be looking for a job. NEPA has the highest jobless rate in the state and is actually higher then the national average.
Stay put and weather this storm and when the economy picks up then move, otherwise your going to find yourselves working for pennies at part time jobs and just barely getting by up here.

Jobs, especially menial ones, are easy to find around here. Career opportunities, on the other hand, are quite difficult to obtain. Bear that in mind.

It's actually 9.3% in Los Angeles. I'm pretty sure we have the highest, not that we're proud of it.
