Default Hiking/Cross-country skiing

Hello,

We are moving into the Hawley area soon and we are interested in knowing if there are others interested in hiking/cross country skiing in this area. Is there an organized group? There are many places to hike/ski and I believe the Joe McDade trail will be completed soon. Promised land is great for skiing trails and there are many trails to hike on. If there is not a group, perhaps we can start one b/c I would like to meet others that enjoy the same passion.

Thanks,
Cindi

Here is the statewide federation of hiking groups: Keystone Trails Association - Home

Looking on the list there, I see the Pocono Outdoor Club" but I think their main focus is Monroe County. Then there is a Wyoming Valley based Susquehanna Trailers Hiking Club.

There might be non-KTA affiliated groups in the Wayne/Pike area I'm not familiar with. The Binghamton based Triple Cities Hiking Club and a Yahoo group based Endless Mountains Hiking Club in the Tunkhannock area fly under the KTA radar.

If there is no organized group in the immediate Hawley area, go ahead and start one! I'd bet you'd find a number of like minded folk in that area. Here is a recently formed group around Wellsboro Wild Asaph Outfitters - Asaph Trail Club that has quite a lot of activities with less of a population base. Remember to affiliate with KTA, to stay connected and findable, and for mutual support.
