Default Visiting Scranton

Me and some friends are visiting Scranton over spring break but know nothing about it.

My one friend just kind of saw the name in the paper and took it as a sign(you kind of have to know him). Anyway he invited me to go and offered to drive and cover gas and everything...so I figure its better than spring break sitting around my house.

I don't know what to do in Scranton as my only experiance with it is though The Office.

Do any natives have any suggestions for a three 19 and a 21 year old spending the day in Scranton?

The only problem with visiting this time of year is that a lot of the attractions are shut down. If the coal mine tour is open, I would definately recommend it. The only thing I can think of off the top of my head that will undoubtedly be open, and that you have to visit, would be Coney Island on Lackawanna Ave., and I'm sure given the age group you guys like texas weiners.

What dates are you looking at being in town?

Yeh lets start by saying that spending spring break in Scranton isn't exactly what I would do.......There is really nothing to do for young people this time of the year and even when its warm there isn't much to do either. You could always come and make yourself into a drunken idiot with the rest of the city on parade day this year.

Knowing nothing about Scranton is a good thing and I too would rather spend spring break in a nicer area with warmer weather and more things to do. And don't base Scranton on what you see on "The Office". That's a Hollywood TV show and is not indicative of what Scranton really is. So there isn't really much to do around here, but like Dan mentioned, a lot of young people seem to like to go to the St. Patrick Day's Parade and walk around like drunken fools. I wouldn't suggest it, but it's something.

We'll be up there in the secodn week of April.

I know the differance between Hollywood and real life...the point of that was to say I know basically nothing about Scranton.

The decision isn't up to anyone but him because he has the car and the gas money...and he demands we go to Scranton for no other real reason than that he expects something strange to happen because the paper sent him a sign because hes crazy.

Me and the other two sane people however will need something to do while were up there.

Not saying you don't know the difference about Hollywood and real life, just pointing out that there's nothing really going on that's exciting here, that the TV show might portray. I'm sure you guys will find something to do, because some people have the knack to find fun anywhere they go.

It varies so much. We're into historic things, hiking, exploring downtown(shopping) areas, amusement park type things...anything at all interesting in Scranton really.
