Default yes...

I know the feeling. Actually it is exciting and in hindsight should be savored! But during the experience, yes, nerves jangle.

I find it happens most with a "new" person or someone I haven't seen in years.

Paul, I cannot believe that you did not have the presence of mind to discreetly text your friends. Can you EVEN imagine what it would be like, if everyone in one of the greatest museums in the world, chatted on their phones while strolling about!?

In galleries there is a certain reverence. In museums, mind your manners!

You need to go to NYC often. Your rural PA is showing. (and....personally, the Scranhattanite thing is wayyyyyy bad!) Makes you look like a "country bumpkin."
Let's "strand" Paul in NYC with just a ATM/VISA/MasterCard bank card, no cell phone and just his wits for 5 days during the work week. Show him what city life is really like.

Uh-uh. That's my favorite. I'm waiting for the one which depicts hysterical laughter.

People were yammering into their cell phones left and right in the other parts of the museum that we initiated our journey in, but I was dialing my friend's cell phone number while walking around the corner towards an art gallery and was completely oblivious to the fact that I had entered it when I started asking her where she and the rest of the party were. The curator immediately threw a FIT! In hindsight texting may have been better, but service was spotty (AT&T's not all it's cracked up to be).

New Yorkers are tough by nature. They're born that way. When in Rome.......
