We are looking at a few homes in the Hollywood section of Greenridge.

I have a few questions - isn't Hollywood in Dunmore not Scranton?

Is part of Greenridge referred to as "Hollywood" or is this just for R.E. advertising purposes?

Does anyone have any photographs of N.Washington (which is a busy street if I remember correctly) or anything else near that street?

Thanks!

Here are some photographs of the immediate area around the Scranton State School for the Deaf, which is very near to the border between Green Ridge and Hollywood:

Very nice photography! Beautiful architecture - some really grand homes. In my area the smallest house would be like 450K!
I CAN"T WAIT TO MOVE!!!

Does anyone know if Hollywood is in Scranton or Dunmore?

It is both - some of those homes were on the Scranton side - others the Dunmore side. Lower taxes in Dunmore - also lower transfer tax!

Lower wage tax in Dunmore, but Dunmore also has higher property taxes.

Interestingly enough I have yet to hear back from any council member in regards to a very diligent proposal I submitted to them in regards to instituting a new city sales tax of 1% or 2% on items under $1,000, including prepared foods, in order to generate enough revenue to significantly reduce the wage tax and more fairly spread the burden of city services upon everyone who does business with the city, whether they be tourists, suburbanites, or residents alike. People won't decide to go to Fresno's in Dickson City instead of Brixx in Downtown Scranton so that instead of paying $30.30 for two meals they'd only have to pay $30 by spending $0.50 in gas to drive on out to the suburbs to eat (if they do then they're just morons, but I digress).

I couldn't find any specific figures online, but I know the wage tax was budgeted to generate approximately $20,000,000 in revenues several years ago. The city's commercial ventures would have to have annual sales of $2 Billion at all businesses to equate to 1% of that generating $20,000,000 in sales tax revenue via a new 1% city sales tax. I think that may be feasible. Let's divide that $2,000,000 figure by 364 (assuming most businesses are closed Christmas Day), and that means that city businesses, as an aggregate, would have to generate just under $5.5 million per day, on average. When you factor in all restaurant meals, all purchases at the mall, all purchases at independent merchants, etc., that may be a stretch but not entirely unrealistic---a 2% city sales tax would more adequately generate sufficient revenue to eradicate the wage tax. If Lowe's is in the Scranton city limits (or is it Dickson City?), then that store alone often generates nearly $100,000 per day in sales. That is 1/55 of that daily target figure of $5,500,000 I mentioned from just one business. I'd assume the Mall at Steamtown, as a whole, does a few hundred thousand dollars worth of business per day. I wish I had a proper figure to check instead of just pulling numbers out of my derriere though.

Some may cringe that I propose a NEW tax, but anyone who runs for office saying they're going to "reduce the wage tax" WITHOUT having any solid ideas to help plug that $20,000,000 in lost annual revenue is incompetent. I think a 2% city sales tax, perhaps coupled with the amusement tax Mrs. Evans proposed not too long ago, would really wipe the wage tax right out. It's disheartening though that not even ONE council member took my suggestion to heart, as it wasn't even mentioned during this Monday's meeting.
