I've been climbing since I was in 8th grade and skiing my entire life. I was actually going places with skiing until I blew my right hip joint out senior year in HS and that was that for any chances of futhering my career. While I was in a ski racing camp in Zermatt Switzerland in 8th grade I did a guided climb partially up the Matterhorn and was hooked from that point. That lead into mountaineering, rock and ice climbing and when I have the time I'm still out there climbing. The skis were packed up after the 4th knee scope and tear and now I snowboard full time for the last 12 years. I am still extremely active just don't have the time to travel for my climbing. Until 2006 I was only home here in NEPA about 6 months a year.
Lots and lots of backcountry for years in Utah, Wyoming, Montana, New Hampshire and Colorado. We used to spend weeks out in the backcountry near Snowbird with a base camp yurt and different lines everyday to run.
The islands have been part of my life since 96 and I have a USCG Captains license for close to 10 years now and have been running big sail and power yachts since I was 17 so that is just second nature at this point but a good son and a good dad isn't supposed to be gone away for months at a time chasing ideas and dreams so now I base myself out of here and work in NJ on boats when I want to(to keep up on my USCG requirements).
I have always loved NEPA because of these sports and never had time to get involved in typical sports because my folks always pushed me to go wherever and do whatever my heart desired no questions asked.
I'm pretty focused over the last 7-8 years on my kayaking and where it can take me and what I can do with a yak......Like I said to Paul when I pop out of the mouth of the Susquehanna in MD he can meet with a hot coffee next year.
This is why I'm pumped that Paul is going to NoVa, you need to go and see and do before life changes and the opportunities are gone. You only live once and can spend the rest of your life working to pay for the time spent during your youth seeing the world, thats the way it should be. I have no desire to work and then retire and be too old or physically unable to push myself to the extremes that I have before I was 35.......Get it done while you can because you never know what might happen and then its too late.
Commish finish law school defer loans and go somewhere and do anything for two years before you take the bar and get locked down to an office or chained to a desk or courtroom table, you won't regret one single second of the time that some will say you wasted playing......
I have a ton of pics of me palying all over the world and they are absolutely priceless, no salary or job could ever replace what those pictures represent in my life.
