Thanks for sharing the pics and stories Dan! With regard to getting out while you're young and doing the things you love rather than being chained to a desk, etc., wise words indeed!

I bit the bullet and got four tickets (lawn) for Coldplay. My youngest son is turning 16 a couple of weeks before the concert and my daughter and I are going to take him and a friend. You were right about all the add-on's. I think the final cost is $213. We'll be hoping for good weather! Son hasn't been to a concert before and we all love Coldplay.

At least the drive up won't be too bad. You'll want to take I-476 North to the Wyoming Valley (Pittston) exit and then get immediately onto I-81 North (towards Scranton) to the Montage Mountain Road exit about seven minutes up the road. I hope you have a wonderful time! As for me, I'm not spending beyond my means when I need to start gearing up for life in the rat race!

They are saying that they'll either provide refunds or honor tickets purchased for the Scranton performance at the scheduled Hershey concert the week prior. I suppose for folks like toobusytoday, who lives about the same distance from either Scranton or Hershey, this isn't such a big deal, but imagine all of the disappointed fans from places like Binghamton who won't be willing to drive all the way down to Hershey now to see them. So, in other words, once again Montage Mountain has a CRAPPY concert season catering to geezers and/or punks!

I wouldn't be surprised if ticket sales were disappointing in Scranton though. They claim it was a "scheduling conflict," but at over $100 a pop it would have been difficult to justify a family spending so much just for a couple of hours of entertainment. Then again people in this area obviously aren't hurting; every other vehicle on the roadways near me is a newer model.

Explain what you mean by "geezers".

I mean I'm tiring of Montage only attracting acts to cater to two demographics:

1.) Punk teens to twenty-somethings who have multiple piercings, multiple tattoos, tongues died purple, and like to dress in all black while banging their heads up and down in a mosh pit and smoking what we can only hope are cigarettes to music that has more profanity than a Scranton city council meeting!

2.) People in their late-40s to early-60s who don't want to let the "legends" of the 1960s-1970s die off yet, even though they've long been forgotten by the mainstream. These people will pay top dollar to hear long-outdated "rock" bands play songs that are now played in b-rated small-town gyms to pump up guys lifting weights (Sammy Hagar and Van Halen come to mind).

Bands like Coldplay are more far-reaching and appeal to larger audiences than the "Warped Tour," some God-awful 1970s rock band, Marilyn Manson, or a country musician who thinks he's being "patriotic." Montage needs to stop catering to only those two aforementioned demographics and bring in some more UNIVERSAL acts---Coldplay, The Killers, U2, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse, Radiohead, etc.

I just got the e-mail with the cancellation news. On the Hershey site it says, " Scranton Customers, enter the password you received into the "Promotions and Special Offers Code" field during the purchase process to access your locations." but I have no idea what they are talking about. The e-mail just said they would refund my credit card. I can actually make the Hershey concert date and as ScranBarre pointed out, since Hershey's about the same distance it's doesn't seem that bad. Daughter can't make it though - she will be in California. But, I don't know if I should just go ahead and buy tickets now or wait a day and see if there's more info forthcoming about special seats at Hershey. Figures, just yesterday I ordered a Coldplay ticket for my son....

coldplay cancelled at montage due to poor ticket sales. those other "geezers" shows you speak of come back every year because they ALWAYS sell well up there. although i love a few of the bands you mentioned, some of them (The Killers, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Modest Mouse) couldnt sell out the scranton cultural center.
