I was surprised, and a little peeved, that Kildare's moved downtown. I understand wanting foot traffic, especially from the university. I enjoy their food, but with two small children, I find it difficult to get into the downtown in the evenings. It was much easier to meet people on "the mountain."
I'm also disappointed that they aren't open for lunch. I was downtown last week & wanted to get some lunch at Kildare's (assuming they would take advantage of lunchtime foot traffic) and they weren't open.

How do you think the people who work and frequent these places react when they hear this garbage? In these tough economic times many eateries are struggling all over the country and Scranton is not immune.
And yes, the banshee has been for sale for a while now, that doesn't mean its closing or even that it is not doing well. Maybe the owners just need a change. In fact, I bet if you go there on Saturday Night, you will struggle to get a drink because of how many people are there. Molly Brannigans closing was a rumor started on another message board based on assumptions. This same message board also had many posts stating that Sambucca was closing any day now. Hmm...that was about two years ago now and last I checked they are still open and doing quite well.
Please check the hate at the door and do something positive for the area like support local business. Hurray for people like Paul who keep trying to promote the area rather than run it down every chance they get.

It just dawned on me and forgive me because I'm tired, but Paul you and I both took the bait on an ambush from our little friends over yonder on PD...... .
Lets see, start a thread involving an issue that you know will get us to post and then BAM the DD attempted connections and accusations start a flowin.......Nice one guys.
Sarturday night at the Banshee unless they have a band or music is open seats at the bar. But nice try. There isn't a bar in town that you would have a hard time getting to the bar in except the U bars on any day of the week.
I'm rather fond of the, "I have been viewing this board for a while and this is my first post." line it adds a nice touch.

Scranton has been struggling for 8 long years and is in worse financial shape then before it was declared distressed so stow the "its the economy" routine....The economy of this city has been on its knees for 8 years while the areas all around it continue to grow and we shrink.

Dan, i understand how when you post you need to stay on message because that is what operatives are supposed to do but lets be honest here. Your dramatic prose on these 8 long hard drawn out years are laughable. Ask anyone outside your group of friends and they will tell you that the last 8 years have been progressive. I can hear you now " well you and your corny sheep friends all think the same" Save that comment for later because my friends are not cronies nor do they need to be. They are intelligent, well thought, even keeled thinkers. People who i listen to instead of just hear.....
I listen to the business owners and the people i know have zero political affiliations and could care less who the Mayor is. They all say that Scranton is looking better and that is what they care about. Does that make them apathetic? maybe, perhaps a bit ignorant, yes but that is what garners votes.
You can not beat Doherty with this type of attack. I am going to be in Scranton for the better portion of May. When i am home It will be a few months since my last visit. I'll tell you what i think then.

I want to add an addendum to this just to clarify my feelings on something. When it some to those who have been milking the Gov't in regard to no bid contracts, cronisim and things of that nature, and I know by name a dozen of them, i find that wrong. I know guys who have been feeding from the trough since Peters was Mayor and they are jokes. That type fo behavior needs to be checked. Doherty is not checking that and I think that is wrong.
Dibileo needs to stop focusing on things he is going to stop and let the "voters" dictate that and focus on things he will "Do". He sounds too much like a Republican as of late....

That would be sad if it is true. I have eaten at Molly Brannigans several times this past year when I ventured back to God's country to see my Mom before she died. We took my little Irish Mom there several times and she really loved it (but not as much as Molly McGuires in Olyphant - that one sadly closed due to the owner's failing health)
The last two times I went there with my brother and niece it was nearly empty. We went at an off hour, past lunch time, before happy hour and dinner, but that didn't look good. To be fair there wasn't a lot of people downtown on that cold snowy day. I can only hope that they find the resources to hang on until the weather breaks.
We will be coming up to NEPA for Riverfest on the second weekend in May. We just might stop in for a Guiness or two after the race if we don't smell too bad!

I have the solution for Molly Brannigans! Have the Chamber of Commerce send information to the "Office" to be included in one of the episodes. Since Scranton is the Mecca for Officies...they will make the pilgrimage. Seems to have helped Six Pence, Farley's, and Coopers!
