I agree. When we were driving up in your area, it was a cake-walk compared to down here!!

We found the drivers to be courteous & responsible, & the traffic (even during rush hours) a bit congested, but not overly... Granted, we don't live there & only got a "sampling" of the traffic patterns, but still, it's SO much worse in other areas!!

Driving through DC area on I-95 was like being in a kamikaze bumper car rally...if I wasn't such a defensive driver, we woulda been dead many times over!! Even worse than driving in NYC!!! I've never seen anything like it!!

Defensive driving, eh? Fortunately for me I'm one hell of an aggressive driver! LOL!

Well so far my reply is not making it onto CD.......
I'll try again....
I put myself to sleep onetime so as not to be awake going around that DC beltway. I never go to sleep in a car........so this is how bad it was!
We take 81 to 17 going south rather then get on 95 and have to enter the Daytona 500 spirit... of those beltways down there.
I felt like I was in a race car. You had to drive like Jeff Gordon to even survive that crazyness. Gosh, don't hit the brakes......Set a certain speed and maintain it......or your done!
So isn't it funny that our main "Sprawl and Traffic" complainer () is putting himself in the heart of the worst traffic in America...
Even the highways of LA are not that bad. At least in LA you are stopped, or creeping along........That is a bunch better then being on the raceway.
I'd learn to swim real quick to cross the Potomac.......or I'd take the bus.......but..........Not on my life would I drive on the beltway.
Nope, never.....
ScranB........whatever you do, look for a way to avoid that, please

Paul, where you'll be living in VA, will you be able to take the Metro to work? If you're near a Metro line, you may not have to use your car all that much down there.

Driving through there on the way home was one of the scariest drives I've ever done!!

It was 3AM & in the middle of an ice storm!! Traffic was STILL heavy (at that hour) & everyone was driving aggressively like it was a dry, sunny day & speeding like idiots as they were sliding all over!!!

I prayed all the way to the NC border!!!

Oh how I ever wish I was assigned to an office where mass transit was available. Unfortunately it looks as if the Metro only runs as far out as Vienna, Virginia, and that is several towns away from where I'll be working in Herndon. Right now I'm looking to rent a 1-bedroom place IN Herndon not only because of the convenience to work but also because it is relatively cheap in relation to neighboring towns due to its poor reputation of being a hotbed for illegal immigrants/crime/poor schools.
