J5K5LY.
You say they just got rid of a board member that wasn't doing her job. Isn't that a good thing? Every year elections are run and the community votes in new officers. So again, we're not stuck with people that don't work out and it the people's decision.

I'm not a weekender, I'm up there pretty much full time from April till November as I can't deal with the snow or the freezing temps to stay during the winter months. I have attended various meetings and I do vote.

You're right, there's a lot of backstabbing politics going on,and the best we can do is vote out the jerks and try someone new, just like we do in any of our other governmental elections. No matter who gets in, there will always be bitchin and moaning from the other side. That's just the way it is. At least we don't have to wait 4 yrs.

I know when I lived there, the board was corrupt and there were always problems. Seems that nothing has changed in that area! My friend said that there was some large budget deficit and that the board hid it. She said there are a few websites that have addressed this but I don't know what they are. If anyone is interested, I guess they could google it.
Ponder- maybe you should go to some meetings and see what is going on? Just going there week ends and having no input on the daily living may contribute to your la-la land view.

Well the census bureau website lists the 2008 population of Coolbaugh TWP as 18,331, and PCP makes up at least half of the population of Coolbaugh TWP. Its probably closer to 2/3.

Well, I was more interested in the demographics that would show the rate of crimes being committed and where. The only link that came up was the one I posted.
There's nothing listed on the Mt.Pocono police website either. Their statistics page was unavailable. I then did a search on newspaper articles, and could only find arrest reports about crimes in Tobyhanna Township, Long Pond, Pocono Lake and Mt. Pocono, some old, some recent, nothing about P.C.P. Thanks anyway.

Well thanks River, right back atcha.

I only have a handful of posts because I only just discovered this forum and couldn't help but to jump in on a subject that hits home.

What you say is true about the locals, but I think the vast majority of all the people in any of the developments up there, are from out of state as well. Not just P.C.P.
That's really not a complete negative you know, that large population is what's spurred the economic growth by attracting some big names like Walmart, Loews, the strip malls, the casino, popular restaurants chains, etc. Without a large population to support all that business, which in turn creates jobs, then construction, tradesmen or landscaping were the only alternatives. Retail was very limited with only a handful of places you could shop locally. As with everything, you take the good with the bad and hopefully make it better.

Well J5K5ly, sorry to disappoint you, but I don't have a long string of listings up my sleeve,... but if I did,..I certainly wouldn't bother posting them here in this thread now would I? lol! Honestly, you have to give us city folk a little more credit that that.

Well notaplan, (you do have one don't ya? just curious...never mind, don't mean to pry),

Getting back, I don't know, I think it's the central water and sewer that's the big attraction, as well as a gated community with tons of amenities. Us city folk are used to things like that. Maybe someday we'll even be "blessed" with sidewalks and outdoor lighting, but I won't hold my breath.

As far as criminal activity, I'm still waiting for the list....newpaper articles, police blotters? Anything? As I posted elsewhere, I did a search, couldn't find anything about P.C.P. but found stuff for Long Pond, Tobyhanna Township, and Blakeslee, go figure.

I don't know where you live, but hopefully if someone breaks in your house at 2 am someone will be able to hear you.

Personally, I feel a lot safer having people nearby, in a gated community, even on my tiny little 1/3 acre lot. If I lived in the woods, I'd feel isolated and much more vulnerable. But that's just me.

Sorry, but couldn't pass this up.

You do know that moving to the Poconos from the city, as beautiful as it is, is actually a step backwards in a lot of ways. "Paradise" is more than a pretty landscape, a nice home and a tract of land...... it's

1.having easy access to transportaion
2 having a decent size police force and fire dept. ,
3. not being fearful of getting stranded in a blizzard with no electricity or heat and not having to shovel or plow your way out of your home every other day in winter,
4. being able to get to hospitals and doctors that aren't 30 miles away, translating to 40 min. in good weather and perhaps 1 1/2 hr. in snow in case of medical emergencies, where minutes count with heart attacks or strokes,
5 and being able to be within walking distance of stores, banks, post offices, and schools, etc.
and there's more, need I go on?

So while you have the notion everyone who relocates from the city thinks they're in "paradise" they quickly find out it can actually can turn out to be a little piece of hell. That's also a contributing factor as to why there are so many vacant homes. It's a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there, becomes the new mantra, ....(not in winter anyway)...
