Ah, Bamboo, you are relocating to Wayne/Pike County, Pa. I didn't make the connection from the Florida board.
I am in Luzerne county and we got hit pretty hard as well.
Like, Fla, you should come up and really research this area. Be mindful of watersheds and old coal mines. Should be maps in the town offices of these areas. Thankfully, we are on a hill and exerienced no damage...and we live on a lake which buried alot of the lake front docks. There are alot of private septic systems and wells to consider when there is damage to this extreme. Out here, if the water is running this high, it could contaminate the wells from the septic overflow, then it runs into the lake. This is what happened here, 2 years ago when Ivan came through here. This storm has been compared to that storm as well as Agnes, that hit here back in 1972. The other thing is whatever area you are looking in, is to see if flood insurance is required as opposed to being optional, which is something, I am sure you are familiar with.
The local news websites like WNEP is very informative on the areas hit the hardest and the road conditions as a result of this storm, etc.
Funny, you moving up here and I'm moving down there, isn't it?

LOL Jackie,
that is funny! We are doing our homework. We were up on Memorial Day weekend looking at properties with our own eyes. We are aware of the flooding and flood ins. You have to do the same down here. Down here we are in a good location because our community is at the highest sea level for the area!!!!! We have never had a flood even with Hurricane Charlie~~
We do not need flood insurance either thank God!
Why are you moving down here??

Ya need a house? LOL how about house swap Ha

I was lucky and sold my house and have secured the rental in FLA but thanks anyway!!

We're moving for a lot of reasons, but mainly the weather. The winter weather, for me, is too long, too cold and way too much snow/ice. The roads here are very hilly, bendy, bumpy and it's scary to drive in and the heating costs have gone up past double. We had 2 houses on our property and paid $1,200 - $1,400 per month, just in gas. Up from $600 or so from last year, it's crazy! We kept our thermostats at 68, too!! I should say that this wasn't from the natural gas co., but one house having a kerosene tank and the other propane. We had 3 1/2 acres with the houses about 500 back off the road, so shoveling or plowing was a pain. When it wasn't snowing or icy, this property was beautiful and the nature we enjoyed was excellent. Waking up to deer, turkey and other animals in your yard, was really something. I will miss that but I grew up on the shore and miss that more and am looking forward to having that lifestyle, year round!!
What is your time frame for moving? I know you have your house up for sale, but when are you hoping to be up here?

well, congrats to ya!
I miss the mountains, the deer, the cool fresh air.
Down here everything is flat. (in SW Florida that is) Cape Coma is very very flat. No view at all except stores and square little houses. Punta Gorda is about the same but homes are more affordable and have less rules and we have Charlotte harbor, the Peace River, etc. which is pretty!

You can get hills up near Ocala and it's horse country!!!

Cape Coma, too funny! I've heard that expression already. That's ok, though. I am ready for flat, too. Living on hilly property can be treacherous when it's covered in ice. I've fallen more times than I care to mention. My family thinks that it's funny but I certainly do not.
When you find your house up here, at least make sure your driveway and most of your yard is level. Oh yeah, and try to make sure your mailbox is on the same side of the street as your house. Some people have gotten hit by cars crossing the street to their mailboxes ....just trying to get their mail, it's insane!

Got ya!! I really can't wait!!! oooh, Christmas like I remember! The first snowflakes hitting your face,
Warm glow in the fireplace, hot cocoa, family all around the table yapping away!!!
Christmas carols!!!
I can't wait!!!!!!
Down here it's nice but not the same. We ask every weekend "what do ya want to do?" "I dunno"
"Wish we could go to your brother's house, but that's 19 hours away!" Geez...
I can't wait!!!!

Our first Christmas up here was absolutely beautiful, I have to admit. It snowed Christmas eve and we had about a foot or better of snow. In the morning, it just covered everything, the trees and the whole landscape of my back yard looked like postcards. I had about 250 trees on my property that were over 100 years old, just huge. The family was home and the fireplace was on and yes we had a 10' tree with all the trimmings and the food, ofcourse, hot chocolate. It was fabulous for the simple reason, we didn't have to go anywhere
You will love it!!
BTW, Thanksgiving is similar. Very crispy air and crunchy leaves....everywhere. Very good chance of snow, too.

The weather really starts to cool down by mid September and doesn't really warm up until end of May. June is safe for shutting the heat off. Spring is very rainy and summer is just too short...for me anyway.

Thanks.
Send me a PM if this gets deleted, but Roy B Hull (Century 21 milford) look for the husband and wife team.

Again, BEWARE they do count basement space in a lot of listings. But I found him to be helful and brutally honest.
