I'm not saying all residents of the Abingtons are like this, but I've definitely noticed a "stand-off-ish" type of personality up there as compared to the "down-to-earth" people I bump into here in Pittston, which is much more "middle-class." I don't know if it's the "prestige" associated with Abington Heights or what that make so many of them so hostile towards others, but I truly wish they'd learn to be a bit nicer. Even today I had people slowing down while driving to STARE at me while I was walking through Waverly snapping photos as if I were some terrorist or something. Believe me, if I wanted to blow something up, it wouldn't be a fartsy-pantsy art gallery in Clarks Summit! I had one guy in an Escalade just come to a complete stop in front of me while I was trying to take some photos on Vosburg Lane. Why? If anything, if I saw some well-dressed, professional-looking guy smiling and snapping photos of my home, I'd take that as a compliment to my good housekeeping abilities.
I know CoArtist and retcop are both moving to Clarks Summit or have already done so, and this doesn't apply to either of you at all. I'm just relating that most of my personal experiences with a lot of people from the Abingtons seems to be that they tend to be "stuck on themselves." This is why I'm not at all surprised someone acted so snooty to you when you called the school district; it's just apparently "in their blood" up there.

Your photo tours are great! I've yet to find anything else on the web that gives you the genuine feel for a particular community. You provide an invaluable service to all the viewers here. I think I speak for all when I say we truly appreciate your efforts.

This tour was by far one of the best. Those homes (McMansions) are unbelieveable. I think they are going to build some of those near me. Oh dear. So far everybody I have met here in Tunkhannock is real down to earth. I don't like the snooty types.
Great job once again!

Thanks. I shouldn't generalize all people from the Abingtons as being the snooty types, but quite a large margin of them do seem to thumb their noses at people from the city, which I don't appreciate very much. Tunkhannock should remain relatively-safe from large-scale developments for quite some time; it's just a bit too far from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make commuting feasible. The three main suburban areas around here (Abingtons, Back Mountain, and Mountain Top) are each only 15-20 minutes from Downtown Scranton or Downtown Wilkes-Barre. Tunkhannock is just a bit too "far-flung" to get any sort of large growth. However, I could foresee a little more retail growth coming your way. I'm thinking a Home Depot or Lowe's will find its way to Tunkhannock within five years, possibly across the street from the Wal-Mart on Route 29. When that opens, you'll probably see Gay's Hardware go under. I hope you're checking out some of the cute little places in town as well so that the downtown doesn't empty out. Have you been to places like Twigs, Fitze's, the theatre, etc.? That town is truly a treasure to behold, and I hope it stays as a true testament to "small-town America" for many years to come.

Abington Heights schools also had an issue about 2 years ago of a teacher abusing autistic students. Also, Abington schools (and the upscale private school Scranton Prep, whose students are predominantly from the Abingtons), despite their reputation, have a sizeable drug problem. Probably stems from both parents being too wrapped up in their careers in order to keep up with the Joneses and have the latest landscaping for their McMansion and newest Volvo SUV, and the kids just run rampant with a lot of money and little parental involvement.
I like it better here in Scranton....the people are more down to earth and involved with their children.
The Abingtons and other similar bland suburbia.... blah.

Nice pics Paulie.. I'm suprised you haven't encountered more hostility on your tours. Take pics of peoples homes down here and you might see a muzzle flash..
If you smack into an unleashed dog it's the owners problem. You should have aimed for them and see how fast they get out of the way. Dogs are like women, if you chase them they'll run away and if you run away they'll chase you..
