What is Montrose like? I have seen it on a map and a sign but have never been there.
it's very rural.........a friend of mine lives there...he purchased an old bed and breakfast and
restored it...but just as a house to live in...the big festivals there are the 4th of july...
and in august the blueberry festival...this is only the 2nd annual chocolate and wine festival

Another hit! Beautiful photo tour ScranBarre! Now just make a coffee table book already!

That town is really adorable. Like a Thomas Kinkade Christmas Village, If you took away the cars the photos could have been taken seventy years ago.
(I mean this in the best of possible ways!)

YES--ScranBarre--you should make a coffee table book about NEPA! That would be fun

Well my coffee table book for new home in Virginia will be a nice softcover Times-Leader book that came free in our newspaper last year or the year before that profiles 100 years of history in the area. It contains a lot of images from our region's heyday to present and would be a great conversational piece for people who wish to know more about where I came from.

There are a few photos of mine that I'm considering blowing up to hang on my walls in my new flat for some nuances of home. Here are a few contenders:

A King's College Monarch snaps a photo of our namesake along the historic streets of West Pittston, PA.

I remember know that one of my scavenger hunt jack-asses was in a backyard in West Pittston as well!

Downtown Wilkes-Barre as you approach from Kingston.

In Scranton this home might be considered an eyesore. In the rural hamlet of Hawley this well-weathered abode exudes quite a bit of character.

A park-like setting in the hills above Jim Thorpe.

Downtown Jim Thorpe

My tribute to NEPA's many pot heads!

SoHo chic meets NoVA suburbia?

OINK, OINK!

Scranton's Nay Aug Park, which, while oft-maligned, is still one of our region's premier urban oases.

Paul, meet Tarzan!

Bandit, my belated pampered pooch.

Towanda, easily one of NEPA's best-kept secrets.

Hell, with thousands of images on PhotoBucket I really don't know which ones to pick!

Where are good places to stay in the area? If I make the trip up for the festival, I'd rather stay the night then drive back.

OK, so why does Montrose have a "chocolate and wine" festival? Equally far from both Hershey and the Finger Lakes?

I'd honestly be more interested in a stone wall festival. The extent and quality of the dry laid stone walls in the area, and the prevailing local pronunciation of "Susquehanna", seem to be more authentically unique local attributes.

They'd probably get more moneyed ladies wanting to see hunky guys in a stone wall building competition - heck, it would probably make the NY Times.

Sweaty, hunky guys building walls - oh, I'm so there! Though some wine and chocolate while watching wouldn't be too shabby either! LOL!

I'm not sure exactly how far I live from Montrose (didn't look it up yet), but you are more than welcome to stay with me if you'd like! I've got plenty of room and a guest room....as long as you don't mind being walked all over by several cats!

Being walked over by several cats would be a normal occurrence for me. I have 4, 3 of which let me share the bed with them - lucky me!

Thanks for the offer, but I may be coming up with a few friends from LI. If I don't, I'll keep it in mind though! So, I still need hotel ideas in the area. Looking for a simple place, cheap and clean. Don't need lots of amenities - cleanliness is the most important feature! I'll even be happy driving 20-30 minutes to get it!
