Deer Resistent Shrubs and Flowers
Hi All,
Does anyone have suggestions for "true" deer resistent shrubs and flowers. I know that when the deer are hungry enough, they will eat everything but is there anything that doesn't need to be fenced in?

Barberry bushes seem to fit the bill. That being said, however, is probably true because of the long pointy thorns. So, if you have young children, keep that in mind. I have to say that the deer left my perenials alone last summer....astilbe, veronica, tall grasses.

Rhododendrons seem to be a safe bet. I've had good luck with roses and holly, and pretty bad luck with a butterfly bush.

Thank you. I see so much beautiful landscaping in Masthope and it's so unfortunate that it all has to be fenced in. I will definitely make a list of your suggestions.

If you plant it, they will eat it. If they don't eat they will rub it or the rabbits or mice will eat it.
Mt. Laurel, Rhododendron, azalias, geraniams, yews, quince, spruce, pine-- all get eatin.
Forsythia seem to get by unscathed.

The only thing we have found they don't like is Lavender. They eat everything else so we plant Lavender. No matter what I have read about plants deer don't eat they do eat them or the rabbits do or chipmunks chew the roots. We have a fence around anything we don't want them to eat so then the moles will get to them, it's a no win situation but I figure they have to eat too. There is a spray that sort of works, can't think of the name of it, maybe Liquid Fence.

I have used the yucky stinky fox urine spray and the deer dont touch anything, except it really stinks and you have to reapply after every rain.
