Well let me throw my two cents in here. I have spent a lot of time traveling for work for more than 20 years to cities large and small while based here in Scranton. I left the Scranton area shortly after the last mayoral election when I accepted a promotion with my company and relocated to the west coast. Each autumn I came back for a visit and was impressed with progress/changes I saw had taken place prior to each visit.
Due to a reorg within my company I was relocated back to the east coast. I chose to come back to Scranton to be closer to family when I could have lived anywhere in the Northeast. I actually purchased a condo in downtown Scranton because it now offers many (not all but many) of the amenities that I had in large cities that I either worked in or lived in previously. It also has a relatively low cost of living.
I am actually excited for the first time in my life about living in the city of Scranton. I see alot of great things happening and not all,but a lot is because of the current Mayor's planning.

I'm glad you're excited about living here. You must not know much about Doherty, because you think great things are happening because of him. You must be joking. The only thing that is great because of his planning is the current debt that he has put the city in and it won't be paid down for years. I would say Doherty would best be remembered as a short-sighted, spending and taxing mayor.

Your kidding right? Townie, now thats rich my friend. I was not born in this city nor this state and have spent the majority of my adult life outside of PA and this country for that matter so to say that I am a prototypical townie is ignorant at best and just plain stupid my friend. You speak of which you know not.
Just because its ordered means nothing and yes you are naive and yes you have pulled you pants down and exposed who and what you are. A troll for the crony hump factory in city hall.
Townie is honestly the funniest thing that I have ever been called by a Doherty hump like you and its refreshing. Really it is. Joyce should of stuck with billboards and advertising because he was a better businessmen when he owned Patrick advertising then he is a developer. Now go crawl back in your hole and go away.
Townie....ROFLMAO seriously.....

Townie? I never heard that word used by the crony, sheep. That's a new one Dan. You are certainly not a "townie", whatever that means. More pipe dreaming from fans of the Doherty camp. He's not doing too good in his bid for re-election, so he has to throw anything out there to look positive. It made me chuckle too.

Townie...the only time I have ever heard that used was by college kids when speaking of the local full time residents of a college town!
We are currently facing our second rent renewal...if it was not for my son being so happy with his elem. school, I would have been looking for a new home OUTSIDE OF SCRANTON!!! I really do not want to purchase in Scranton anymore...the roads stink, the admin. seems h.e.ll. bent on a continued course of reduction in public safety...the city council...well...they leave much to be desired.( do not want to even go into what I really think of those folks).
We are still in a holding pattern regarding purchasing...I was so happy to move here, I am still in Love with Nepa, but after two years of being in Scranton I am glad we did not rush into purchasing a home!

Oh right, if anyone has anything positive to say they either don't know what they're talking about, or they're some sort of crony shill sent by the mayor. It's really getting tiring.
And calling someone a sheep isn't nice-- you really shouldn't use that word.

If the fleecing fits.......Its not about someone saying something positive, not at all.
Its about what they speak of or how they say it that makes them a crony or at least a blind sheep Doherty follower. Hey I think Nay Aug looks great but was it worth over $10,000,000 to get it there when the city has been distresssed for 17 years? NO, not at all.
Sure the 500 block looks great but did they need to build it and spent over $28,000,000 of tax dollars on it when there are 50 already existing empty office and retail spaces in the downtown? NO, not at all.
These are smoke and mirror projects that put a window dressing on the city or lipstick on the pig so to say so that Doherty seems like he is making progress, when actually nothing on the inside of the city has changed at all.
The tax structure which is what will encourage business and people to move to and open up in Scranton has not changed and the downtown has fewer businesses in it now then it did 4 or 8 years ago. The city is shrinking every year and its not because the downtown didn't look good and its not because of Nay Aug..
Its because of the 3.4% wage tax, 3.0%+ Mercantile tax on businesses in Scranton, the business sign tax, escalating sewer rates, poor roads, unsafe neighborhoods.......
The shooting that was in North Scranton actually happened on Nay Aug and Electric st behind the Giant in Lower Greenridge 2 blocks from my home.
I've had it with Doherty has his so called progress, we have regressed in my opinion.
Blip your here maybe a year and some of us have had to watch this city crumble for decades only to see it crumble further and fall into such debt that it will take generations to dig us out from under this financial mess.
Doherty is nothing more then an A.I.G....He took taxpayer dollars to bail out his budget deficits and then handed out raises to his admin after he did it. He raised taxes along with Gatelli, Fanucci and McGoff and then handed out more raises right after they did again. Some city hall employees have recieved raises upwards of $40,000 in one year...Stu Renda went from $35,000 a year up to $85,000 in one year...Come on.
Scranton cannot survive on this tax and spent rollercoaster its on and when it crashes its going to be bad for all of us. Better to change the driver now before its too late.
