I'm sure there are 3 sides to this story and that the guy who was beat to death is not an innocent bystander in this....I'm sure he played his part. I'm not saying to let these guys off with no jail time, but the way this guy is being portrayed as some sort of innocent guy with no part in this is false, in my opinion.

BS. So only liberals care about blind justice? Is that what you are saying?
No one portrayed him as innocent. I certainly haven't. But it wasn't up to these wonderful white boys to serve vigilante justice. And for that they should pay.

I just wonder if all you bleeding hearts would be so outraged if the guy that was beaten was Irish, and the attackers were yelling anti-Irish slurs....or any other light-skinned ethnic group for that matter...

I would be outraged if *anyone's* murder was not punished. That's the WHOLE point of this thread, phillies. Did you really miss that through all 11 pages?

Please show me the newspaper article that states he had his future sister in law pregnant with his child, I have not been able to find that. What I found is that he was engaged to a 24 year old woman and she had one older child by another man and 2 by Ramirez. I also read that a retired Philadelphia police officer saw and heard the whole thing and felt it was in fact a hate crime instigated by the white boys. I have seen many fights in my life, and it is very normal for a man to remove his shirt and jewelry to defend himself, that in itself would not indicate guilt. Why in the world would anyone start a fight with a group of football players? The whole idea is just stupid. The thought that this man was somehow responsible for his own beating death is totally disgusting. It is the same backward thinking that says a woman who dresses seductively deserves to be raped.
I agree that it should have nothing to do with the words hate crime. The fact that this man (the Father of 2 American citizens) was an illegal alien should never have come up at all, nothing at all about this man's past should matter in this case, the fact that these boys beat and killed a man should have been all that it was about.

Certainly it is, if you're going to appoint someone based on their race what else do you call it? If Obama said I'm going to appoint a white justice would it be racism? You can't have it both ways, if you want equality you need real equality. This continued thought that we somehow need to make things easier for minorities is only making things worse. You get less than desirable people in positions and it only angers whites more.
Do you want the most qualified firefighter in charge of saving your life or do you want the one that got promoted because of the color his skin?

The point is, they are going to be punished for the crime they were convicted of by the jury that actually heard all of the evidence.
But that isn't enough for some that would rather see people sit in jail for a longer time for a crime that they were not convicted of.

We are saying they should have been convicted of much greater crime. SOME of us have followed the Courthouse blog and if these jurors want to save their reputations they should come forward with the spectacular secret evidence that the public knows nothing about.

Yeah they are being punished, Just a tad more than OJ was- ah well what goes around comes around. Maybe the mother can now collect a paycheck from the government for the next 20 years on our dollar, to support those fatherless children. At least the father is no longer working illegally to support his kids, we can do it for him.

This is a verdict you'd expect from a backwoods Mississippi jury in 1892 after a few Klu Klux Klan guys were on trial for hanging a black man from a tree. This isn't a verdict you'd expect from a Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania jury in 2009. At the very least it should have been aggravated assualt and involuntary manslaughter. People get much stiffer sentences for being drunk and driving and accidentally killing someone (and they should do time!), and these drunk driving do not even intend on harming anyone. These two boys INTENDED to do harm to this guy, and took it a little to far, whether or not they intended to kill him does not matter, the guy ended up dead because of these to killers PERIOD!!! i am sure there are many guys in jail serving life in prison, that got into a physical fight with thier wives that also didn't mean to take it so far but thier wives ended up dead. How is this case any different? Murder is murder. These to beat a man to death...whether or not they meant too kill him is irrelavant, and they should be punished just as harshly.
