Schuylkill County: The most racist, backwards county in America? (Progress: condo, crimes)

I can't help but wonder, if it were 3 teenage Mexican's that beat up on one white guy, would these people from Schuylkill County still feel the same about the verdict??

I can bet my life, the answer would be "no". They would expect the Mexicans to be locked up for life.

What facts do you keep talking about? How about this FACT... These two punks kicked to DEATH a defenseless human being, and are going to get away with it, because of ignorant, racist people who cannot see past the fact that he was an illegal immigrant. I'd bet my last dollar that even if these white kids beat to death another white american kid, that these two MURDERERS would be looking at a much different fate behind bars. The only reason these kids aren't going to spend thier lives in prison is because it was a mexican that they killed and not a white kid, and you know it!!

And what European nation did your ancestors immigrate too America from GiantRutgersfan? Maybe if the Native Americans (a.k.a the only real Americans!) had kicked them to death when they got off of the boat, because they were immigrants when they arrived here in America, then we wouldn't have you here right now to share your endless wisdom with us.

According to the evidence, the medical examiner cannot say for sure if the kicking is, indeed, the cause of death. Remember, one of the boys who opted for a plea bargain and testified against these two is the one who initially landed the first punch that caused the victim to fall and hit his head on the pavement. Could that have resulted in an injury that contributed to his death? Maybe the jurors felt there was enough reasonable doubt to not convict. As far as the victim being described as "defenseless", I don't agree. He didn't deserve to be beat up, but he certainly wasn't a responsible, upstanding member of society either.

Hehe, that was a fitting comment for such a ignorant human being. I saw this thread as I was perusing the boards and I cannot believe some of the comments being said. My goodness, how disgusting to read some of these opinions and comments regarding other human beings. To so blatantly spread lies and assumptions (i.e. pedophile/child molester, etc.) based on pure ignorance is very alarming to see.

No, I do not support illegal immigration but I do support the equal rights and humane treatment of everyone. I have no problem if others want to come to America for a better life like all of our forefathers did themselves- just get an honest job and pay taxes. I have lived around many races from my childhood in SoCal to my current life in NC and I have seen problems from EVERY racial group, especially ignorant white people like the ones I have encountered here in various backwoods parts of NC. As long as they have their deer on the wall, pick-ups to drive and racial groups to insult, life will be just fine for them. Oh, don't forget the mullets they sport and the rag-tag group of ignorant children that they have, who continue to spread their parent's hateful, narrow-minded way of thinking. Seriously- it sickens me that so many people can hate another human being so much and can actually murder them. Drag a black man behind a truck and kill him. Stomp a Mexican man to death. It breaks my heart at the intolerance and ignorance of Americans.

P.S. It is not uncommon for 15 year-olds to marry or be engaged to 25 year-olds, especially in other countries. Instead of unjustly and ignorantly calling them a child molester, why don't you think about your ancestors back on the farm??? 40 year-old men used to marry 13 year-old girls only a few decades ago because that's how it was done........ My husband is nine years older than me, so if we had met when I was 15, instead of 20, he would have been 24... Some of you are true idiots.

As I posted earlier, it doesn't matter which blow caused the death. The mob as a whole killed him. All of the boys should have been found guilty of manslaughter.

I've long known that Schuylkill County was the armpit of Northeastern Pennsylvania, and this recent debacle (that was just shown in detail on CNN about ten minutes ago, by the way), has only cast yet another black-eye upon this dying coal county. When WNEP interviewed one elderly gentleman (if I should even call him that) and asked for his opinion of the case, he said that the boys should be acquitted "because that man was an illegal anyways." In other words, the popular belief in Schuylkill County (also judging by comments made in the Pottsville Republican-Herald), is that if you encounter an illegal immigrant it's perfectly fine to murder them because you're just doing the border police a favor! I was happy that my own hometown area of Greater Pittston was represented on yesterday's televised Talkback 16 with two INTELLIGENT callers voicing their disdain for that man's comments.

As others have asked, what if the shoe was on the other foot and three Mexican teenagers brutally beat a Caucasian 25-year-old to death in the streets of the armpit they call Shenandoah? I can GUARANTEE that the uneducated residents down there would be crying for blood, leading a crusade with torches and pitchforks in an attempt to engage in vigilante "eye for an eye" justice while similarly-corrupted police officers looked the other way. When people in NoVA learned I was from NEPA they were almost sympathetic, and after experiencing an area where 65% of residents have a college education and returning to an area where perhaps 15% have a degree you can SEE the stark contrasts between people who RATIONALIZE things and those who engage in KNEE-JERK REACTIONS.

I also wonder, just like W-B Proud, if the fact that these "human beings" were high school football players played any role in their acquittals. It has long been known in those crumby small towns in Schuylkill County that the only thing to do on a Friday night is to head to the high school football game preceding hanging out at a smoky corner tavern with AC/DC playing on an incessant loop for lack of any sort of arts/cultural/intellectually-stimulating events. As such high school football players are elevated upon unfairly high pedestals in relation to their peers, even though only a fraction ever become true "success stories" in life beyond high school. I'm sincerely hoping that their status as stand-out jocks did NOT have any sway either.

My father nearly accepted a management position at 84 Lumber in Pottsville back in the 1980s, and today I shudder to think of just how MISERABLE I would have been growing up in such a wasteland!
