That is in South Wilkes-Barre. South W-B is hit and miss, but Amherst ave. is in the good section. I don't think you'll have any problems down there. It is close to Meyers, Kistler schools, and close to the historic district. I give it a thumbs up! Welcome to Wilkes-barre if you do decide to move here!

My cousin lived on Amherst for quite a few years and didn't have any problems. It's a relatively nice area there and one of the nice areas of South W-B.

Amherst Avenue is in a part of South Wilkes-Barre just across the railroad tracks from Barney Farms, arguably one of the city's most upscale neighborhoods and home to Mayor Leighton, so it should come as no surprise that this is one of the better parts of South Wilkes-Barre. The seediest section of South Wilkes-Barre, in my humble opinion, is the area bounded to the north by Academy Street, to the south by Horton Street, to the east by Pennsylvania Boulevard, and to the west by Carey Avenue. Some long-troubled streets in that area include Sambourne Street, Stark Street, Huston Street, and Hazle Avenue.
