Southern Union Fiasco
From what I have read the Southern Union debaucle cost $30,000,000.00 . I am curious if anyone knows the square footage of the project? I want to compare what it costs per square foot to build class "A" office space in the Northeast, versus how much Scranton paid to build this edifice...pun intended. Granted I have only seen one picture of the building but for that money I expected a 10 to 20 story building. Unless of course it is a very large building.....at least 150,000 square feet. If not I believe the taxpayers got taken for "a sleigh ride".

you don't get it do you? this has nothing to do with actual need, and has everything to do with Chris Doherty and Scranton wanting so badly to be viewed as a modern, progressive city. does Scranton also need passenger rail service to NYC for a mere 350 million dollars plus maintenance for the ten people a day that were projected to ride it even though we already have bus service that is cheaper, quicker, and more convenient? NO! Does Scranton need an $18 million dollar library in south side? NO! It is about trying to make Scranton feel and appear more like a big, signifigant city, even though it is one of the fastest shrinking cities in America. Scranton has a major inferiority complex. They are not content with just being an average, small city. They want to be like Philly, or Boston or something, but they are not and never will be, no matter what Mayor Doherty says. Scranton is already too small for these kind of major big city projects, AND IT CONTINUES TO SHRINK AT A RECORD PACE. I say if Scranton insist' on building these ridiculas, unneccesary moneypits then let Scranton, AND SCRANTON ALONE fund them. I don't want even one penny of my tax dollars spent on helping Scranton with it's self esteem issues.

You are right, but you shouldn't use the word "THEY," you should use the words CHRIS DOHERTY (and his merry band of cronies). Most regular Scrantonians are not trying to be another New York City. I'd rather just be Scranton.

I DON'T GET WHAT....I think you have "read" your agenda into my innocuous statement. I do not know the politics in Scranton enough to voice an opinion.W hich I do not recall doing?
