"good etiquette versus good grammar"
Which do you feel is more important? We all agree if someone "grossly" mispells a word or does not make their point clear...WE "JUMP THEM"; but what if someone makes small errors ,as they get into "the spirit" of the conversation. Do we clutter up the forum with he mispelled/she mispelled?????Also, should everyone be subject to the scrutinization; or just the "chosen few"? I think you know where I stand on the subject. Chime in kids.......don't be afraid!

Etiquette. Everyone makes typing mistakes. I don't think we should be subject to such scrutiny. I ignore posts that ignore too many grammar rules though. Grammar exists for a reason.
IMO, grammar and typos are not synonymous.

etiquette most definitely. It is not the words but how you say it. However, I agree with Magritte, too many grammer mistakes gives me a mental picture of the person typing the message.

I think etiquette is most important. Grammer is also important especially when someone is trying to get their point across and dont understand what they are trying to say. Sometimes you misunderstand their post and your reply makes no sense.
I think though that also whats important is to respect people and their opinions. Even though many have different opinions on different subjects we need to (as Retired Law has said many many times) agree to disagree.

Oh gosh, we're all here just to chat and have fun. I could care less if someone spells a word wrong.
Myself......LOL..........with the periods. I surely know better. I don't write a letter to a friend, or a personal letter, with those added. It is a computer way of typing. Purely a bad habit........we all laugh and make fun about. So be it...........
When the fun and interest in banter vacates.....then many don't return to CD.
I pretty much ignore long winded posts that go on and on........
But, I don't care if someone spells something wrong....It has happened to us all.
I do try to make sure that the thread starter is spelled correctly. Sometimes that looks quite odd when the words are spelled wrong in a title.

Etiquette. If someone is grossly abusing the English language, then sometimes I can't help but say something, but a misspelled word here and there do not warrant scrutiny, and certainly not at the expense of other posters who will have to wade through posts to read such childishness....in my opinion.

I type and proofread for a living, so I grind my teeth quite often when reading some people's posts. However, not everyone has the benefit of the same level of intelligence or educational background as everyone else. The purpose of this forum is to be helpful to people and to answer questions about our area of the country and state. If you were speaking to someone face to face you would not correct their grammar (I hope not anyway). I think we owe each other the same courtesy on here. If someone makes an error that totally changes their point, then it would be okay to question them to find out what they really meant. But often making corrections or pointing out errors makes people uncomfortable or makes them feel they are being put down. That's just not nice. We need to use proper etiquette in our dealings with each other, both online and in person.
I can just picture someone who is not an expert typist hunting and pecking over their keyboard, with a genuine need for information. They finally get their message finished and send it off only to have someone nitpick their grammar and/or spelling. How sad!
So I definitely vote for etiquette over grammar and/or spelling.
And as an example of how easy it is, I just had to edit my own post because I typed "are area" rather than "our area". Of course I know better, but my fingers went faster than my brain.
