In my humble opinion The Stroudsburgs are indeed less crowded than Northeastern New Jersey, but the "demographics" (pushiness, rudeness, aggressive driving, attitudes, etc.) has spread its way westwards along I-80 and across the Delaware River to that part of Monroe County. Businezguy, who moved to The Stroudsburgs last year, will be along soon I'm sure to be of better assistance and to discredit
any negative thing I say about The Stroudsburgs, but bear in mind I'm relating my own personal experiences with the town as well as recanting stories I've heard from a few "natives" of The Stroudsburgs who have since moved up here to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area to escape "the city" (which is ironic since our area is much more densely-populated).
I've been to The Stroudsburgs (which I should probably explain encompasses Stroud Township, Stroudsburg, and East Stroudsburg) on numerous occasions, and each time I've been glad to have finally returned to Luzerne County (which is saying a lot! LOL!)

The downtown areas of both towns are very quaint, well-kept, and charming. There are many great small businesses to explore, and many people take pride in their homes. The proximity to New York City is an incredible perk. However, I just don't tolerate people being rude (not saying "thank you" when you hold a door for them, tailgating you on I-80 when you're already stuck in a line of traffic on that woefully overburdened roadway, using profanities in public near children, wearing pants so baggy their boxers are exposed, talking loudly on cell phones about inappropriate topics, bumping people with carts at big-box stores without saying "excuse me", etc., etc.) There is a disproportionately high amount of RUDENESS in The Stroudsburgs as contrasted to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre area, and I blame that on the NYC/NJ transplants not realizing that now that they've crossed the Delaware River that they can DROP the "aggressive attitude" as people here want to be more laid-back and aren't always looking either to "challenge" you or ********* over. People moving here need to drop the "tough guy" act that many possess after years of feeling burn-out in the rat-race of NE NJ and NYC, as I am very, very tempted each time I visit The Stroudsburgs to give someone a public reaming out to correct their assertive dispositions.
Businezguy can slam me all he wants, but I speak only the truth from my own PERSONAL experiences that while The Stroudsburgs have many assets, the people could use some sensitivity training. The Stroudsburgs aren't "the city." Stop treating them as such.
