Does Scranton have a problem with this issue? Sarasota just enacted an ordinance allowing for the offender to have their car impounded. I am sick of my walls vibrating at all hours; but is impounding the car going too far???? What do you think.....plus how can someone drive with the decibel level....would not even hear running over someone!

I hate the boom boom stereos that rattle my windows and my brain. But I think impounding their vehicle is going too far. That is too "big brotherish".
I can see a good stiff fine that gets their attention for the 1st offense and impounding the sound equipment on the 2nd offense. These people need their cars to drive to work so they can make enough money to buy the hearing aids they are going to need later on and to pay for doctor visits to treat the tinnitus they are going to experience just to find out there isn't much the doc can do for tinnitus that was caused by excessive noise.
I know about tinnitus. I have it. It wasn't caused by loud music.
It was caused by working in a loud shop for 30 years. Never thought about the noise level being a future problem. These loud music folks don't realize what the long term effects can be. They think it won't happen to them. Well, it will happen to most of them and they won't like it. But that is in the future and they only live for the present when it comes to hearing their boom boom stereos.

Some private communities that have rules and regulations have a regulation about noise which encompasses "loud music" etc. I think there is a first warning and then they start to fine you.

I abhor those stereos. I think they are very annoying. But I don't think there should be any ordinances on them nor should I think the car should be impounded.

I agree with you that they are very annoying. The stuff they are playing isn't even real music, it's just junk rap or dance music with a loud bass sound. I think it is a safety issue and they should be fined. How could the driver or a passenger hear anything outside, like a siren for instance, with that garbage blasting at high decibels? It just doesn't make sense to have something that loud in a moving vehicle. And why do think that we want to hear it? Just another example of the decline of our society in general, loud obnoxious people with no respect for others.

I agree it is rude....and selfish....but no, I don't think it should be punishable by law.
