Economic Causalities Pile into Tent Cities
Economic Casualties Pile into Tent Cities | Ron Paul Wins! | Campaign for Liberty at the Daily Paul
I just heard this term last evening when socializing with friends about "tent communities". I have not seen this on the news. Does anyone know if there are any tent communities in NEPA. How sad this is and was wondering if anyone knows if you can donate to these families??

You could do it if you really had too, a nice wool stocking hat tops the list. You need to insulate yourself from the ground such as with a air mattress, piece of foam etc. In a pinch cardboard will work nearly as well. Once you have that covered the rest is a cake walk with enough blankets. Nice small tent with a single candle burning in it and you're living the high life.
I've slept on the ground with nothing more than Ridgerest and sleeping bag (made for it, with a "hoody") in 0 degree weather numerous times. That was on purpose, not because I had too.

"Tent cities" were popular even in cold areas in the 1930s. The only one I've really heard of in this "depression" is one in Sacramento, CA a couple of months ago that was the focus of a couple of TV specials and a court case.
I'm not fond of the article you note. It doesn't say much about where the tent city is, etc., just that one exists. I bet it's the one in Sacramento......

There was a rather large tent city in Tampa/St. Pete. but the "authorities" had it dismantled...seems kind of mean to me and this was months ago; but I would think the problem has gotten worse not better. Florida does not like the bad publicity and you seldom see the issues tackled in this area. Sarasota was recently voted meanest city in the United States; but you never really hear about it.
