Scran, I agree with your read of the split, with Doherty voters also voting for the anti-Doherty council members. Voters may have viewed Doherty as the better leader on the ballot, while still not buying into his plan fully and wanting serious checks in place. It's not all black and white.

If his critics are right, he won't appreciate this and will egotistically talk about a mandate like W did in 2004, which of course helped lead to the awesome Republican implosion.

I just hope the mayor realizes it wasn't a total buy-in by the voters, and hears some of the criticisms.

I find it strange that you decry elitism in one post, while calling Doherty voters sheep in another post.

Referring to another group of people as lesser herd mammals is elitism in the extreme.

Well, they have a sheep mentality. It's not our fault that they can't vote for anyone else but their elitist mayor. The facts were all out that and they chose to ignore them.

And the fact that his Doherty Three is now broken and he didn't win by a landslide, shows he really didn't win much this time around. I guess it will take another four years for the sheep, uh I mean voters, to fully get it.

I'm not saying these "sheep" are lesser people, just uninformed, apathetic, or too lazy to research the issues and vote responsibly....they seem to base their voting on sound bites, photo ops, and propaganda posing as news. It doesn't mean I view them as beneath me or anything.

Maybe some people voted this way, but living around here my whole life I've seen how people vote in this area.....and I don't think its any coincidence that the winners in the mayoral and council race all happen to be Irish. As ridiculous as it may sound, people around here actually do vote based on ethnic background. And I don't mean this as a shot at the Irish, as I am Irish myself.

Yeah, I bet you're right that that is a part of it too, unfortunately.

Up until a few days before voting day, all I knew were candidate's names from campaign signs I saw around town. I had to pick up the paper, look them up online, etc. to read about their views, experience, education and I did it in time to vote. It's not like voting day is held secret until the last minute. Everybody knows when it is, so "Well I just don't know enough to vote" excuse is pretty lame.
I knew everything about the Doherty vs DiBileo race. I liked DiBileo's proposals, but I couldn't vote for him since I'm not a Democrat. Maybe I should've casted a vote for DiBileo as a write-in. From the latest news, it looks like Novermber's race will be between Doherty (D) and Doherty (R).

The information I had from the judicial candidates on contested races was not enough for me. All the information I got was regarding education and experience, which was similar across the board. I wanted more information regarding court rulings, to determine if the candidate was interpreting the law as written or legislating from the bench.

I think it's okay to say you didn't have enough information to vote. I do not want people voting who are not totally informed. In a perfect world, everyone would know everything, but that's not our world, and I think it is respectful to stay out of the voting booth if you do not have a clear vote in your mind.
