WVIA had a show on this about the old trolley line. "Up da line" was North of Scranton, I believe it was somewhere near Carbondale where the northern terminus was. If I remeber correctly they also said it ran as far south as Pittston or "Down da line".

As far as Upstate PA that's dumb, NEPA is indetification that will never be obliterated. For example they renamed all these old football and basball stadiums... Soldier Field in Chicago will always be Solidier Field. Too many business and other entities already indentify with NEPA and they certainly are not goin to change that.

Thanx for the northern clarification. My mom grew up in Larksville and there was a Wilkes-Barre to Pittston run. I guess it ran south to Nanticoke at least. She used to say"down da line", when travelling from Pittston to the Plymouth area to see relatives.

When I was a baby in the 60s we always called our Pike county home "upstate Pa" I came from Long Island NY. My Norwegian Grandpa was born in Rowland Pa. his folk came from Norway and settled in Rowland for the spring, summer and fall and wintered in Bay Ridge NYC. We often said we were going upstate Pa.
