Can someone please explain to me what happened with the building collapse along Lackawanna Avenue that I see posted on the web site of the Times-Tribune? Wasn't that SUPPOSED to be the site of Jefferson Pointe? How could Jerry Joyce just sit and let his building rot and decay like that until it collapsed? With how busy that area is, especially with the new Kildare's nearby, someone could have been SERIOUSLY hurt!

The inside was in the process of being rehabed and it is believed that a lot of water had pooled on the roof with all of the rain the past 2 weeks which caused the collapse. It may not have been known that there were weaknesses with the roof to begin with.

Paul, it's the one next to Kildares. I think I even posted something on here a while ago, stating that the roof was filling with water. Should not have been a surprise.

The building was not in the best shape anyway, and I think that with the retention of the building that Kildares is in now, the Jefferson Pointe project is moot. Does he really have the space there?

Ha! Here is my post from July 2nd, 2008.

Quote:
Workers have begun to gut the interior of 'Bee Witching,' which is on the site of the ever-proposed Jefferson Pointe project; could it be that this is finally underway? The one corner of the roof must have a blocked drain, it's been holding gallons and gallons water for some time now, I'm surprised it hasn't caved in. Jerry Joyce is/was the developer behind the project, first announced in November of 2003.

This was the proposed footprint. Not possible now with the renovated building that Kildares is leasing. Just leave it gone - they need the parking.

What a shame. Instead of having a nice mixed-use development at one of the gateways to the city that could have housed Kildare's in its first floor with dozens of condos/apartments above we just have a large empty lot with a suburban-style new construction restaurant. Scranton needs to start building UP, not just "out!"
