Whoop de doo that you know four Spanish speaking people who are here legally. Fact remains, MILLIONS are here ILLEGALLY and guess what, they're speaking SPANISH so it's not all that far of a stretch to assume that you'll "run into them" all over the place, and I stand by my statement that if you truly assume that every Spanish speaking person you encounter is here legally, that you are residing in fantasy land.

Well, my mother in law took the kids and my husband is at work, so gee I hope it's ok that I am on here.

I guess I am just surprised at your vitriol towards me. I don't live in a fantasy land but I'm not a Negative Nelly either. I know many others that are bilingual but I just mentioned the Spanish speaking ones because that is what you were talking about.

What is WITH this board?

And I never said you NEEDED to do anything. I just assumed that since you took the time to post something that you'd like to be understood correctly. Sorry that I was wrong.

I couldn't care less what language someone chooses to speak to their friends or family. I thought it was a free country.

Fine, don't shop somewhere if you can't communicate with the proprietors, etc, but letting the sound of Spanish disturb you--or even worse disgust you.. ?

I guess all those libertarian ideals go out the window when the brown fear walks in the door.

At my last job we had 2 CAD operators.

One of them, (a), spoke the Queen's English and attended elemantary and high school in Upper Dauphin county.
The other one (b) spoke fine English but also Spanish. He spelled more words correctly on the drawings than (a). He was born in Mexico and attended elementary school there.

Which one was a U.S. citizen and which one had a green card?

(b) is a citizen and (a) is a British subject and green card holder.

Well, I for one worked in center-city Wilkes-Barre for a little over a year and felt much less safe than I do in mid-town Manhattan where I currently work. Aside from WB (and all of NEPA) having a horrible drug problem, I have to say that it is one of the ugliest cities I've ever visited. WB depresses me, and so do most of its citizens with whom I have spoken. There is just this weird mentality in NEPA that is impossible to escape while living here.

That said, I'm looking to move back out of NEPA relatively soon.

As far as the crime in Wilkes-barre, this has been a particulary bad year. I don't understand why all this senseless murder is happening this year, and that's what it is stupid heat-of-the-moment murder. Instead of people fighting it out like they used too, they seem to not hestitate to shoot you or stab you dead! As far as Scranton goes, I think w-b has gotten these undesirable out of towners first, and I think it is only a matter of time before Scranton "catches the plague" also. It's already starting to happen. So Scranton shouldn't be so quick to look down thier noses at what is happening in W-B, because in a few years it is likely Scranton will be dealing with the same thing. I also want to emphasize that the vast majority of people moving into Wilkes-barre are here for a better life for thier children. They are coming here and getting jobs and contributing to the neighborhoods' rebirth. It only takes a handful of bad apples to really make the rest of the good people moving in, look bad.

Wilkes Barre has approx 2,100 African Americans... Scranton has approx 2,300... so your wrong. Technically there are more African Americans in Scranton.

I dress (aside from the underwear showing) and walk around like that on my days off.. but when its time to go to work -- you'd never know it aside from a jersey accent.

Prove that .. show me the #'s where it indicates that people move here because they want to sell drugs and be on public assistance.

Show me the statistic that shows that... that there are more hispanics intent on getting a job versus the amount of african americans here to sell drugs.

TO QUOTE WIKIPEDIA IN RE: SCRANTON-WILKES BARRE MSA ......

"The area also has the highest percentage of non-Hispanic whites of any U.S. metropolitan area with a population over 500,000, with 96.2% of the population stating their race as white alone and not claiming Hispanic ethnicity."

You cannot pretend to know anything about any minority, their backgrounds, their intents, their trends when only 3.8% of this 560,000 person region are minorities! You Do Not Know!
