It seems there are so many people that have relocated to PA ~ Lehigh Valley area and the Pocono area both. From what I am told, NY and NJ seem to offer such an array of things, good food, style, good paying jobs, opportunities, lots of things to do and see, I can go on and on as I hear very often how great NY and NJ is from people that left both states. I am just curious to see what is the NUMBER 1 reason for leaving NJ or NY is. Remember the #1 Reason.

Affordability. In NJ, my husband and I would have had to choose between either staying in an apartment for the rest of our lives, or living in a shack with the way the housing prices and taxes are there.

I have not yet moved but here is why I will.
YES there are some very nice aspects of life in my area. the North Shore of Long Island.
But the number one reason would have to be financial considerations. We can have a better quality of life in NEPA than in NY without all the worry.
PS NY salaries unless you are in NYC are vastly over rated. An average home here costs 350 - 400K
Try paying that on 60,000 per year.or 80. Then try doing anything OTHER than paying your mortgage.

Number one reason would be for lower taxes ( but I pay more taxes per year here then in NJ... with a much bigger property, but about the same size home)
Second, to be close to family who moved here
Third........So much beauty all around, "open spaces", not crowded up.......home on top of home

Cheap Housing... Cheaper Taxes.. Cheaper Car Insurance...

My rent is truly 1/3rd of what it would be if i had this same place near where i grew up.
