Buying a car in NY or NJ (sales, DMV)

How does sales tax get paid for a PA resident buying a car in NY or NJ? Is there reciprocity or is it paid at time of registration in PA or do I end up paying PA and out-of-state sales tax?

I'm only a part time PA resident and a full time NY resident.
I bought my last car in NJ... I paid no sales tax to NJ and none to NY at the dealer. The NJ dealer put temp plates on the car and I had 10 days to register in NY. The DMV in NY collected the sales tax when I registered and got the permanent NY plates.
Probably works the same in PA.

You pay the sales tax to the state you live in when you register the car.
