Seems someone is starting these up here-- picked up a flyer the other day.

"An empowering and fun bike ride for a safer and less auto-dependent community!"

That's tonight 6pm, meeting on the N. Washington Ave. side of the courthouse.

Gah! Missed this post! Too busy celebrating my birthday yesterday!

Love to get more info on this - sounds like a great idea! Is there a website, or where to get the flyer?

Blip can you scan and post the flyer? I have about 10 people that would want to get involved with regular bikes and my customs as well.

Default Here yous go

Scan of flyer attached.

Cathyde, I don't know of any website-- these tend to avoid a central authority or organization. Just show up on the last Friday of the month and see where the (friendly, peaceful) mob ends up going..

Weluv, that's one you built? That's a lot cooler than my latest ride, a cheap as dirt Chinese foldable bike with 10" wheels, which I haven't even dared to try on these streets..

Yes its one of mine. I have been fabricating bikes from scratch for about 10 years.....Here is a few more...

The silver one is the latest and I am currently working a on full soft ride with rear suspension and an inverted raked out girder front end. Everything will be coil over short shocks and tucked away from sight under the seat and in the front forks..

Pretty sweet. You ride those around town? Seems like the hills and potholes might be tough.

Are they fixed gear, or free wheel?

CM in NY was fun even just to see all the unusual bikes..

They are coaster brake set ups with the new bike going to be a 3 speed free wheel rear wheel. They are used around town only in the flat areas around my house or downtown and we travel them to the shore to use down there.

Like I said its just something that I have been doing for years with each bike better then the one before. I used to build banana seat bikes and beach cruisers, but lost interest when I built the first chopper about 5 years ago.

Each part of the bike is hand crafted except the wheels, tires, gears, peddles and what not. The frames are all hand built as well as the forks and all suspension parts. I have started to build custom handlebars for the new bike as well.

Well, let's hope they are nothing like the ones in Seattle. There the bikers block traffic on purpose, harrass drivers and last year after refusing to allow a car thru when it had the right of way it ended in an altercation started by the bikers and they beat the crap out of the driver.

Blocking car traffic is useful to keep the group cohesive and to make a brief point about bikes getting more attention, achieving "critical mass", and creating a truly safe ride free of the usual dominance of cars. In NYC the cops often helped block the car traffic. Obviously we could debate whether it's just or not.

I'd never support beating someone up, but the driver was probably a jerk.
