taxes are NOT that low--many other states have NO personal income, state taxes AND have adequate police and fire control in all areas--even rural--pa's problem is there are too many politicians here with their hands out for money they should not be getting----i never saw so many people here that embezzle, take payments illegally on the side, constantly want their pockets lined before they do anything for anyone--sigh!

Try looking at NY. where the state govt has refused to work for over a month. besides, when some of my co-workers in Long Island and NJ pay 8,000-12,000 a year in property taxes, NEPA seems pretty cheap.

Perhaps if the state police would spend LESS time parked trying to pick off speeders by hiding in the medians on Interstates and would spend MORE time patrolling rural areas people could have better peace-of-mind? Honestly, what "harm" does someone doing 70 in a 55 zone on I-81 do in comparison to someone running a meth lab unchecked in Bradford County?

I have been a PA resident for over 30 years some of which is part time. I do not think taxes are so low. But then again, you get what you paid for. I was paying $7,000 in my last house, still no police coverage, garbage pick up etc. I am not complaining, though the communites with security are lucky to have a quick response especially if it is a medical situation.

They are understaffed so badly. Stopping people from excessive speed can prevent injuries and fatalities.

Correct. I am in favor of the police stopping people from speeding excessively. However, when the one officer on-duty in your community one night happens to be pulling me over along the roadside in a speed trap for doing 56 in a 45 zone on a deserted road I am sure you would feel differently if he/she was leaving the rest of the community unprotected. Any burglar reading this should feel free to target homes in the tiny and upscale Wilkes-Barre suburb of Laflin because instead of actually PATROLLING NEIGHBORHOODS all these cops do is "hide" on Route 315 to pull over people for doing 10 miles over the speed limit.

usually your safe moving with traffic at 10 miles an hour over the limit or so on an empty interstate but occassionaly you get those cops that like to play gotcha and tag you .... those are the ones i have issues with....its strictly a revenue generator and has no bearing on anyones safety..... theres no way grandma in her ill maintained old vehicle with the donut spare as her everyday tire is safer at 65 then i am in my bimmer at 75 moving with the flow of traffic....theres so much more real police work that they could do .....if they want to slow traffic by their presence place a decoy empty cop car parked on the road in view and deploy the officers somewhere more usefull.... im sure with 3 cars avail for hundreds of miles to patrol theres much higher priority events going on
