My husband & I want to go out to eat for our anniversary. Of course, he's left the choice up to me as to where we eat. I want to stay somewhere in the Scranton/ Clarks Summit / Dickson City / Dunmore areas. I don't want to go to a chain, I'd rather go to a smaller locally owned type. I also don't want to worry about $50+ entrees as the norm on the menu. I don't have an unlimited budget!

Any suggestions?

Has anyone been to either Osaka (downtown Scranton) or Great Uncle Peter's Steakhouse (Clarks Summit) recently? Yep, totally different ends of the spectrum.
I'd like something that I haven't tried yet. It's not too hard, since I don't go out to eat too often. We were to the Ipanema Grill (Providence area Scranton) recently & really enjoyed it...especially the Sangria, yummy! Skip the lunch buffet though. Dinner is much better.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I went to Great Uncle Peters last summer and wasn't that impressed. I thought the prices were completely over the top (and my husband and I are used to paying top dollar at other steakhouses like Ruth's Chris, Mortons, etc. but these prices were ridiculously high). I didn't find the sides to be that great, and to be honest the steak wasn't all it was cracked up to be! The atmosphere left a lot to be desired as well.

Villa Maria, Bryn Mawr st,West Scranton; Grande's, Birney Ave, Moosic (good food, reasonably priced); Alora, Peckville, not too much further than Dickson City, and worth the extra few miles; Carmella's, Dunmore; Russell's,Dunmore; Bistocchi's,Dunmore; How about Gemma's in West Side? I haven't been there in years but it used to be good, maybe somebody from West Scr. can let us know. I've never been to Faccia Luna,West Side, but I heard it's nice;Harbour House,Keyser Ave.

* Sidel's in N. Scranton. Sit in the bar area, to me it has a nice city / small restaurant feel. (Esp during holidays with lights all over.)
* Grico's in Exeter. A bit of a hike, and haven't gone in a long time, but always well worth it. Nice inside.
* Anthony's in Old Forge. Some of the best food around, IMO, and everyone I take there loves it. (A little less ambiance than the other two, but sill nice.)

Faccia Luna is really nice inside too, though I'd recommend just the pizza, which may not be exciting anniversary fare. They're closing for a week or so, probably in August, to change their kitchen and menu (but keeping the pizzas.)

Anyone been to Villa Maria II? As good as Villa Maria I? Haven't been to either but want to try them, and II is easily walkable, which allows for a couple of drinks..

The food is exactly the same as Villa Maria I, but II has a bigger bar area, and a banquet facility, in addition to a fairly small dining area.

I'll echo Blip's comments. Faccia Luna has some great pizza, but the last time I was there I had pasta and it was TERRIBLE! Grico's, if I remember correctly from my old stomping grounds, actually has private booths for an even more intimate, romantic setting. Pat Greenfield, the owner, even had a long-standing food-oriented column in the Wilkes-Barre Times-Leader.

I have not been to Osaka's in a couple of years but when I did the service and food were very good. Villa Marias and Amici's in Clark Summit are also very good.

Glad to hear about Ipanema Grill as I have been wanting to go there for dinner some time soon but wasn't sure how good it would be considering this area.

Thank you all for the suggestions! I'm going to check out some menus online.
I did check out the one for Great Uncle Peter's & was floored! $188 for a steak!!??? I don't care how big it is, especially when there's a $5 per person charge on top of that to share it!

We had talked about Villa Maria, especially since it's about 4 blocks from us.
If I hadn't just been to Ipanema Grill, I'd be going back there! The food was done perfectly both times that we were there & the seasonings are wonderful (we all had meat...family of carnivores!)
